The Holy Church of Primorius Solus

Unlike most of the other racial pantheons that are polytheistic in nature, the majority of humans of Asphodel pray to a single deity simply known as Primorius Solus and its cadre of Saints. Their religion is one that encompasses a vast swathe of rigid moral and ethical implications, characterized by different tenets and dogmas. Over the centuries, their church has spawned a multitude of sects and orders, some sanctioned, some secret and others considered heretical. The followers of this religion are most commonly known as Primarites, though other names have been used for different contexts, such as Zealots and Enlightened Solusians.

At its core, Primarites' beliefs are neither exclusively xenophobic nor xenophilic, but there is always a permeation of supremacy when it comes to humans, or at the very least, the qualities that they'd consider human-like. They believe that human spirit and qualities outshine those of the other races of Asphodel, who should tend to imitate them if they are to be enlightened. Primarites place a high value in the number 10, which they consider to be sacred and according to their beliefs represents the cyclical nature through which their religion came to be, and through which the world itself changes.

The Saints

While Primorius Solus is considered the sole deity, his Saints are considered to be agents of his will and representatives of his aspects. Represented as a cabinet or a fellowship, these demigod-like entities originate from the generals and heroes of the mythic God Wars. Keeping with the numerological tradition of their faith, they number ten in total and each one of them is called upon for help in their particular field. All are given due respect and veneration, and it's rare (and considered heretical) to celebrate one over the others outside of specific religious orders.

Saint Incudus, the Smith - Patron of flame and forge, he is venerated by craftsmen and guildsmen and called upon when embarking upon a new crafting project or venture.

Saint Proelius, the Warrior - Patron of soldiers, battle and warfare, he is venerated by all militaristic-minded people and especially in times of war and strife.

Saint Dauctrinus, the Teacher - Patron of learning, lore and scholars, he is venerated by students and sages, and called upon when seeking to learn.

Saint Hebitus, the Green - Patron of nature, of plant and animal life, he is venerated by outdoorsmen and farmers alike, and called upon when travelling through the wilderness, just as much as for a bountiful harvest.

Saint Medelius, the Healer - Patron of healers, herbalists and doctors, he is venerated by practitioners of healing arts, and called upon when seeking aid and restoration.

Saint Aurelis, the Shining - Patron of the light and the sun (and to a lesser extent, the moons), he is venerated by all and thanked for the light that he provides, and called upon when venturing into the dark places of the world.

Saint Tonantis, the Thunderer - Patron of weather, the storms, seas and sailing, he is venerated by sailors and fishermen, and called upon during maritime expeditions.

Saint Yusis, the Judge - Patron of justice, order and the moral law, he is venerated by not only those in judicial systems, but by merchants as well, and is called upon when one deems they were treated unfairly.

Saint Letus, the Gaunt - Patron of death and the afterlife, he is venerated by all and called upon to ensure the safe passage of loved ones to Primorius' side in the Heavens.

Saint Tutelis, the Protector - Patron of protection and righteousness, he is venerated by all and called upon to invoke protection and safety for oneself or one's family and friends.

Mythology & Lore

The cornerstones of Primarite mythology revolve around the formative years after the Exodus. They speak of the deeds of the Saints on behalf of Primorius, as well as the ascension of their diety to the Heavens after making sure that the humans would be taken care of. The vast majority of these myths originate from the venerable tome called "Deix Praxis Solar", which has been copied and passed down through the ages, spawning a vast number of retellings across the human civilizations.

Divine Origins

Much has been lost from the time when the humans traversed the multiversal portals that lead them to Asphodel. Their world ended in an apocalypse of cosmic destruction that followed the God Wars in which single deity reigned victorious over a world on the brink of complete shattering. Its name lost to the ages, that deity simply became known as Primorius Solus - The One and Only. It was that divine force that ushered the beleaguered races of their world - humans, gnomes and halflings - through the portals with the help of its seraphic messengers and agents.

Cosmological Views

For the Primarites, the world began when they emerged onto Asphodel from their own dying world. The God Wars and the resulting fallout are considered parts of myths and legends, and what matters to them is how their organization originated and developed in the years that came after the humans found themselves in this new world. For them, the worst is behind them and Asphodel is the cradle that is theirs to shape into the world they wish to live in. It is equal parts reward and challenge, and it's human tenacity and perseverance that will shape it into a paradise for all.
