Journal - Session 3 - The Stranger and the Orb

General Summary

The 2nd of Serrum, 1390 of the Storm Era, Goblin Dungeon southwest of Weatherdeep
At the other end of the room was a half-elven Ranger who had a wolf with him. The party spoke with the stranger about who each of them was and what they were doing. Everything was good until Dink mentioned they were working for the Grand Artificer, at which point the stranger became enraged and attacked the party. He withdrew a flash bomb from his belt pouch and threw it at the party, disorienting them. His wolf jumped in and attacked Vex and prevented him from intercepting the stranger.   Meanwhile the stranger ran up to Dink who had placed the Rue Stone into his bag and cut the bag from Dink’s shoulder and then ran out of the room. As the stranger ran out of the room, he yelled out for his wolf Sabre to come with him. The wolf let go of Vex and followed him out of the room. The party quickly came to their senses and ran to follow the stranger out of the room. Dink was first behind him and was right on his heels followed by Vex. Ghesh, Moloch and Milo were the last out of the gate. As they exited to above ground, they found themselves in some ancient ruins that the forest had overgrown.

Outside of the main tower ruins the stranger made a break for the tree line, but before he could make the trees Dink tackled him. The two wrestled for a moment on the ground and the stranger was able to get back up again. Before the party was able to reach the stranger, he managed to scramble up a nearby small embankment and disappear into the woods. The party tried to search for him but was not able to find him anywhere. For a moment Milo thought he saw a shadow pass into the woods, but he quickly lost the trail.   The party regrouped and discussed what they needed to do. Looking at the early evening sky that looked like a storm might be coming the party decided to spend the night locked in the dungeon instead of risking the evening and a potential storm. The party returned to the dungeon and began to set up camp for the evening in the large room the party fought Nitzcrag in. Milo returned to the entrance of the dungeon where the goblin huts were. He then brought the horses into the largest of the huts and secured them in the shelter. He then returned to the rest of the party, and they barricaded up the room for the evening.   The group took turns taking watch over the evening. When Dink was up for watch he thought he heard something stirring outside the room in the hallway that leads to the main entrance. He went to the door and looked though the crack in the door but was not able to see anything.   The 3rd of Serrum, 1390 of the Storm Era, Goblin Dungeon southwest of Weatherdeep   The next morning the party awoke and began to prepare for the day. Dink went to unbar the door and in the hallway, he found his backpack on the ground in front of the door. The strap that had been cut was repaired. Dink looked inside the bag to see if his goods were still there and he found everything where he had left it except for the Rue Stone. Furthermore, inside the flap of his bag he found a handwritten note that said “He is not who you think he is! – G” The party discussed what this meant but ultimately decided to continue with their mission.   The party returned to the entrance of the dungeon carrying the recaptured glowstone chests with them. They then went to hitch up the horses to the cart, but as they approached the horses, they noticed that there was a bucket and food that had not been there the evening before. The party hitched the horses up to the cart and loaded up the chests with the glowstone.   The party then set out back to the road following the same path the cart was brought in by. When the party reached the road, they turned east and continued along their path to Weatherdeep. Along the way they encountered some town guards traveling with some civilians and invited them to join up with them. They were from Weston but didn’t realize that there was a storm coming and were concerned about making it to Weatherdeep before it was too late. Further up the road the party encountered a squad of Stormwatch who were out trying to protect people trapped on the road. The Stormwatch joined up with the party and began to escort them toward Weatherdeep. Soon the party passed the crossroads and turned north toward Weatherdeep. As they progressed the storm grew worse, and before the party was able to make it to town the storm hit. Soon the elementals began to spawn from the elemental fury of the storm.
