The 22nd of Serrum, 1390 of the Storm Era, Greypeak
The party helps with the wounded and the dead. Kenji and Moloch embrace as they haven’t seen each other in a while. Dink inquires as to what is going on with the orcs. A woman dwarf mentions that ever since the Stormwatch pulled out of town these green skinned bandits have been attacking and pillaging. Moloch wonders why the monastery hasn’t helped out. Kenji says they need to talk.
The party goes to the Three Pines Tavern and get a table in the back. The innkeeper brings the party bread and cheese. Kenji tells the party about the fate of the monastery.
He tells them that not long after Moloch left the monastery to travel, Voyd had pushed hard to become a master, but the council said he wasn't ready. In anger Voyd left the monastery looking for Shan Kopan. A few years went by, and within the last few months Voyd has returend and is different, he has claimed to master a new form of martial arts with the help of a new teacher and has caused a schism in the leadership through the showing off of his new power. Half of the council went with him, as well as half of the students to return to their rightful home of Shan kopan which Voyd claimed to have found with the help of his new teacher.
Recently, Voyd returned to the monastery because he heard that Grandmaster Urum's health was failing and he wanted to claim the right to be the next grandmaster and he was wanting the Shengshou (The set of golden bracers with a blue stone on one hand and a red stone on the other. They are relics of the monastery passed down from grandmaster to grandmaster as proof of their office) they are said to have mystical powers. They are also said to be the key to Shan Kopan, the mystical birthplace of the martial arts. The Council refused to give it to him due to it being a relic of the brotherhood and he was not the rightful grandmaster. Voyd then challeneged Grandmaster Urum to a Sho kai (Fight to the Death, Winner take all), but Master Alistar stood up and claimed the right of Daiti Sho Kai (Subsititution) due to Urum's poor health. The battle was held before the reflecting pool, and was intense. Master Alistar showed how great of a master he was, but something was different about Voyd, not only was he trained with a new style of martial art that harnessed the elements but he seemed to posses supernatural strenght and power. In th ened Alistar was defeated and as he lay dying from his wonds, he stood one last time with all he had left and the rest of the council stood with him along with all of the remaining monks. Voyd did not have the numbers to overcome everyone agains him so he retreated. Master Alistar succumbed to his wounds shortly afterwards.
Moloch is so upset that he gets up and walks away. After Kenji finishes speaking Dink goes out to speak with Moloch who had went outside and began playing his flute. Dink tried to console Moloch, who was quite upset at this news. Moloch continues playing his flute.
Galad pays for a room for the group and the stabling of the horses. He tells Moloch and Dink about the room and then comes and tells the rest of the group the same thing then goes to stable the horses. Dink, Vex, Ghesh and Galad go to a nearby blacksmith shop who tries to buy Vex’s +1 scimitar for 25 gp..
The party then goes to the Neverlight Arcana where Vex sells his rapier and a healing potion and buys a +1 rapier. The party passes Moloch who ignored them. Vex, Dink and Milo retire for the evening. Ghesh goes to a nearby shrine and meets with a priest of Ava and gets inspiration for continuing on his mission.
Moloch walks around town until well past dark and finally loses control and attacks a tree and then finally collapses in exhaustion. He then returns to the tavern and goes to sleep. On his way to his room he sees Kenji and they speak. They make plans to return to the monastery in the morning.
The 23nd of Serrum, 1390 of the Storm Era, Greypeak the Three Pines Tavern.
Ghesh and Dink get up and go down stairs for the morning, Moloch wakes up and joins Kenji in training. When Kenji is finished Moloch continues. Dink tinkers on Kobo and Milo joins for a break. Everyone eats and discusses going to the monastery. They head out of town headed toward the monastery. Moloch is overcome with memories about his past life in the monastery as they travel along the road. He sees places that he remembers from when he was young, a tree him and Voyd played in, a place where he had an inspiring discussion with Master Alistar.
When they arrive at the monastery they ring the gong and gain access to the monastery. Moloch has a reunion with Melian and breaks down crying.
After a little while Kenji returns and lets Moloch know that he should go see Grandmaster Urum as soon as he can because he is not long for the world.
Moloch, Dink and Milo go to see the dying Urum and Moloch speaks with the Grandmaster but there isn't much response as Urum is unconscious.
The party goes to eat and Moloch goes to train. Ghesh has gone to help clean up the monastery, and he finally comes to eat. The party retires for the evening. Except Moloch and Ghesh go to Urum’s room. Ghesh tries to lay on hands but it doesn’t seem to help Urum. Moloch puts his hand on Ghesh’s shoulder and asks if there isn’t anything else he can do. Moloch leaves the room and he goes to meditate. Ghesh prays for a little while longer and then he leaves and retires for the evening. Eventually Moloch retires for the evening.
The 24nd of Serrum, 1390 of the Storm Era, The Neverlight Monastery
Everyone sits down for breakfast when suddenly the doors burst open and monks come pouring in. One of them yells out “We have come for the Shengshou”. Soon the entire hall erupts into a giant martial arts melee. Not long into the battle a group of monks attack the party.
The Battle of the Neverlight Hall
- Galad advances on the enemy and attacks twice but misses.
- Ghesh casts Sacred Weapon
- Vex rushes and attacks the water monk. He attacks twice but only hits with his dagger dealing 6 damage.
- Kenji moves 30 feet toward the monks.
- Moloch moves toward the air monk and uses Flurry of Blows hitting 5 times dealing 37 damage. Moloch also sets to dodge
- Kobo moves to try and trip the water monk, and successfully knocks her down.
- Dink attempts to shoot the fire monk twice, hitting once dealing 11 damage.
- The water monk uses water whip on Vex but he makes his save and only takes 6 damage.
- The fire monk charges Ghesh and uses Fangs of the Fire Snake and deals 4 damage to Ghesh.
In the distance on the balcony Voyd appears wearing the Shengshou and Melian approaches to attack. They fight for a little while and Melian gives a strong effort but it is not enough and Voyd overpowers her and throws her down.
- The Air monk attempts to attack Moloch but is not able to hit with Flurry of Blows.
- The earth monk attempts to attack Galad but misses.
Voyd approaches Milean to attack her and kill her.
- Milo casts Magic Missile to the 2nd level against the water monk and air monk. The water monk takes 4, air monk takes 2, fire monk takes 4, and earth monk takes 2 damage.
- Galad attempts to attack the earth monk but misses.
- Ghesh uses his breath weapon against the fire monk and the monk is unable to dodge him and he takes 7 damage.
- Vex hits the water monk with his dagger dealing 8 damage. He hits with his rapier dealing 11 damage
- Kenji advances on fire and uses Flurry of blows dealing 30 damage.
- Moloch attacks air monk twice, dealing 18 damage, killing it.
As Voyd raises his fist to strike, as quick as lightning Grandmaster Urum shot out from nowhere and using a powerful technique strikes Voyd and the force of the blow throws him back and he hits the edge of the balcony and he flies through the retaining wall and down to the ground level of the hall.
He then stands and laughs and he raises up his hands and on his wrists is the Shengshou and says “This is not over old man! Now that I have the keys to Shan Kopan I will go and release my master from his prison. The world will be covered in his darkness!!” He then took a dark orb from his tunic and he said the same incarnation they heard in the Foe Stone Dungeon north of Marfallow. Dink took aim and tried to shoot Voyd, the bullet went right by the monk’s head as he dodged it. He then disappeared in a wink. After he disappeared all of the evil monks retreated.
