The Kingdom of Exotetala

Created by Dr.Weednut
Exotetala is a cluster of islands in the northwest of Ashnuw inhabited by Obses--creatures with hard armor for skin. Obses draw inspiration from the arthopods in their culture. The different Obses cultures chose different arthopods to represent themselves. These became towns and cities.   Water Kingdoms:
  • Crab - Settled on southwestern third of the coast, homes built on tall pillars. Used themselves as tanks during the Pirate war.
  • Lobster - Settled in the north third of the coast.
  • Shrimp - Took up remaining third of the coast.
  • Isopod - Settled deep in the water in circles around the islands. Built their homes inside lowered air pockets. Used their bodies as canonballs during the Pirate war.
  • Waterstriders
  Land and Underground Kingdoms:
  • Ant - Live colonies. Largest population and use of resources, strong work ethic, Communistic type government.
  • Termite - Much like the ants.
  • Scorpions - Well liked for their diverse skill sets, small and few cities above and below ground in dry parts of the west island. Even fewer numbers in the east island.
  • Centipedes - Also well liked, even smaller numbers than the scorpions. Settled in underground tunnels after a large war.
  • Spiders - Built homes everywhere, with even a few daring enough to live on the coast. Used silk in all their architectur. First to advance in technology.
  • Bombardiers - Only group that creates and sells explosives. Fared well in the Numbers War.
  • Cicadas - Transmit messages from island to island with their wings. One cicadas learned to use her shed skin as remoldable armor. Chose not to fight pirate war and slept for 700 years.
  Nest Island Kingdoms:
  • Bees - Second to make advancements in technology. Used their wax to make homes similar to the wasps, but cleaner and more advanced.
  • Wasps - Third to make advancements in technology. Created wasp nests onto the islands to increase their living space. The inside of these nests are like 3D mazes for people to live in.
  • Moths
  • Butterflies
  • Mosquitoes
  • Flies - Hollowed out the exoskeletons of the titan arthopods in the Numbers war and used their bodies as food and structures to build cities.
  • Murder Hornets
  • Dragonflies - Lived only around the lakes on the islands
Alternative Groups   Not obsessed with arthopods like the rest of the civilization. Instead these groups focused on elements like mold, leeches, rust, plague, etc. These people were tired to living with these problems and instead tried to learn how to utilize them once they arrived in Ashunw. They settled underground beneath lakes to collect the water. Their structures look like antique buildings with metal and grown over with plants. 20% of today's population.
  • Cordyceps - Joined in Numbers War of 934. Convinced neutral partiest to join them, claiming to be the best kingdom and to have answers.

Full Kingdom Lore

The islands up northeast, crawling with life comprised of the creatures with hard armor for skin. The natives on the island referred to as Obses drew almost all inspiration for their technology, buildings, and transport from the arthropods, building a kingdom based around them. They didn't worship the creatures as deities, they didn't think that the creatures deserved such titles if they could be stopped by just being stepped on nor could do so much as understand them.   Several groups formed as more people came to the islands through ships from far off.   The colonies fell into groups focusing around a specific type of arthropod to build their culture off of, ending up in multiple separate cities and towns which eventually dissolved into separate kingdoms during a civil war in between the two islands. The groups highly passionate to the water took a liking to the crab, lobster, isopod, and shrimp, at least those were the most popular when the civilizations started out at the sea. The Crab groups settled right on the coast, having their infrastructure mostly built on tall pillars in the water to hold them up. Some built watertight bells underneath the water to have some infrastructure underneath the topside villages to use for catching fish for food, but never touched the shrimp or lobsters that crawled in the sand.   The Lobster groups settled in the north, taking up a third of the coasts while the Crabs took up the southeast thirds of the islands and the last of the coast was given to the Shrimp group.   The Isopods settled much deeper in the water, encircling both islands but further out at sea with large air pockets being built and lowered down into the deep sea for them to form their infrastructure.   The mainland was settled by groups which primarily took up both land and underground areas. These majority of these groups consisted of ants, termites, scorpions, centipedes, and of course, spiders.   Ants and Termite groups took up the most space and made up the vast population of the land and underground given that they were both colonies and the work ethic and the fairness of both groups became super attractive to most who settled the islands at the time, having a very Communistic type of regime.   Scorpions, like beetles with the appearance of the Lobsters and the sting of the furious wasps. The Scorpion group being somewhat of a combination of groups was helpful, having many qualities that settlers loved to be a part of, having the strength of a beetle, the sting of the furious wasps, and the grip of greedy crabs. The Scorpion groups had few and small villages underground and above, mostly in dryer parts of the west island, having even smaller numbers on the east island. Centipede groups were even more uncommon than Scorpions, but were just as well opinionated on for similar reasons. The Centipedes also had similar infrastructure to the Scorpions, having underground and above group villages, which were all destroyed in a war to come later on in the kingdom's history, leaving the underground tunnels left for the centipedes to settle in.   Spiders had settlements in almost all parts, but the water, although some were daring enough to try living on the coast. The Spider group obviously made good use of silk and were the quickest to obtain better technology to make a stronger silk for themselves to use for constructing their villages which always had some trace of silk in one form or another. The general buildings made by the Spider group were almost completely made from silk with logs and stone to help give the buildings a frame to build off of.   The floating islands, or to the natives know as the Nest Islands were populated by almost entirely by the flying arthropod groups, majorly consisting of the Wasps and Bees. Few large groups, but there were often hundred of villages built by smaller groups like the Moths, Butterflies, Murder Hornets, and Dragonflies which were only around the lakes in the islands.   Wasp groups like Spiders were third to make advancements in technology, inspired to make large wasp nests around smaller islands which also provided more land to control and the insides of the makeshift nest villages were like 3d mazes filled with rooms for settlers to inhabit.   Bees like the Wasps were fast to get onto the technology tree, being second in the race close to Spiders, though to them it was to replicate the wax bees used to form their hives and they were successful in doing so, having a more advanced and clean version of the nests made by the Wasps.   Other groups formed later on in the islands history, but these groups were not obsessed with the arthropods like the rest of the population. These alternative groups consisted of twenty percent of the population in the modern kingdom that rules the islands today, however when the islands were first colonized these groups were only few individuals and over time they joined together to form their own village, but as time went on, some of the groups began to separate once they got larger and relations with other groups got harder to maintain.   The groups mostly consisted of other things people would find creepy or unsettling, leeches, mold, rust, plagues, the people felt with these kinds of things a lot from where they were originally from, tired of having to deal with the problem and did their best to fix it, unfortunately for the people, the land they were born in could do nothing to stop these problems so when the people sailed out and found the islands of Ashnuw they saw an opportunity to not fox the problem, but live with it and use it to their advantage in any way possible.   The people mostly settled underground in large caverns underneath lakes to collect the water and the infrastructure could be described as a combination of old metal, antique buildings with plants grown over.   Exotetala is the modern Kingdom of the islands, once the islands were first found they were simply named, The Twin Isla in 907 and stayed as a normal and typical colony for a kingdom for a while until the Kingdom the people were originally from got less involved and seemed to have forgotten about them amidst having to deal with problems at the homeland and overtime forgot about the islands entirely, leaving them to fend for themselves in the infested land where little to no other life like farm animals, forest life, or many birds even. The islands were just populated with parasites and bugs and that was all that was discovered at the start of the islands history, later on the people would find large versions of the things they obsessed over, constructing cities on their backs and are times when space was available, within the armored shells.   It wasn't until 966 that many groups began to become independent and work on their own aside from certain groups stealing from others for resources.   The Wasps were first to start attacking other villages and were the first to have an entire group of people unify all their properties on the Nest Islands. They bought silk from the spiders, or more accurately, they held a spear to them and politely and permanently borrowed the silk to connect the unified islands. This practice of connecting islands was the skys way of claiming land like setting borders on the grounded land to the people.   Colony groups like Ants, Bees, and Termites were at a mutual agreement with one another, the Ants provided more protection and strength to the others and the Bees provided fast transportation and food and Termites, they supported the other groups in size and manpower with it. Although the colony groups all worked together when it came to simple trade, and jobs that needed to be done such as making a river through both islands for transportation, the Arto Divides built in 916 they were hesitant to join another's war or conflict unless they got something in return.   The first major conflict and war that happened on the islands was between the Moths and Mosquitoes in 929 in the higher Nest Islands. The Moths were expanding onto Higher islands and stumbled upon a few which were already taken by Mosquitoes although in very few numbers so the Moths decided they would simply kick them out and is was simply done, but once other groups of Mosquitoes got word that was the year all reMosquito groups unified and started to regularly attack Moth claimed islands.   The conflict came to an abrupt end in 934 when the Wasp and Hornet groups joined together and began to go on a conquest of the Nest Islands as a response to the Ant invasion of the ground and thus the largest conflict in the islands history began as the second recorded war, starting right as the first stopped, 934.   Numbers was the given name of the largest war the islands endured due to the sheer amount of people participating. Over the course of the whole war, Wasps, Hornets, Ants, Bees, Moths, Scorpions, Bombardiers, Mosquitoes, Flies, and Cordyceps.   Other smaller groups would come in and out of the war for personal reasons but the previously mentioned were in it for the longest time for their own reasons which specific made them stay in it for the longest and the one group which stayed in the longest over the others was the Ants while Moths were only in for a few months at a time over the course of the entire thing.   The groups that benefited most from the war was Bombardiers, Flies, and Cordyceps. Bombardiers made tons of money and had great trade since they were and still are the only group which produces the only explosive material in the kingdom and that advantage really helped them in the war, mostly with defence and that was shown brightly to others when the entire land got news that the Bombardiers had no failed defense attempts meaning their land was completely untouched. Flies benefited from the Numbers war from the destruction of the titan like arthropods the groups were obsessed with. The meat inside the impenetrable exoskeleton of the titans served for great protection and great places to build cities inside of, not to mention the excessive amount of food an entire group could get off one. The creatures were all just tall enough to grab and drag down the lowest flying islands and some were able to fly and claim mountain sized islands for their own, however some got bigger, large enough to plant multiple cities on. The limbs of the titan arthropods were used to make towers and buildings to settle in and the main shells were where nearly all capital cities were built. The capital city of the kingdom today lays close to the east coast of the eastern island where the original colonization started.   Cordyceps saw the war as an opportunity to grow their own numbers by convincing others which didn't support either side of the war to join them and that they will be part of the best kingdom. That was a lie from the start, but these people were a little angry with their original kingdom from ignoring them while they were in it during serious problems, so finally having one to actually care and fix the problems felt great to have.   The war started in 935 and ended at 990. With all major players deciding it had gone on for too long and no one was benefiting from it and all it took to start the whole thing was a group wanting more land to support their citizens and population which grew a lot faster than anyone else's.   In between 990 and 1000 the two islands were at relative peace other than smaller groups wanting land or other things that other groups had and Ants remained as the leading group which slowly began to unite all the other groups that obsessed over arthropods, the groups more focused on leeches, fungus, and other things decided they were not going to be a part of that and as such they hid in the shadows of large islands in the sky, making use of wet, moldy, infested, and otherwise uncomfortable land by anyone else's perspective, however this was their perspective and this land was for all intensive purposes, perfect for them to settle in and they did and to this day they still sit there claiming not to be a part of the kingdom of Exotelala while Exotetala claims that the non arthropod groups are still part of them and are just very reluctant to admit to be part of a kingdom.   Cicadas played a somewhat important role in the kingdom from 993 to 1000, a short lived, but great time for their people. Their sounds could be heard for miles and a single cicada could be heard from the next island over if they were putting all their effort into the sound and were in the coast of the island for the sound to not travel as far.   Members of the Cicada group were often hired to be the person in the village and city to relay news and messages and most of the time they got their own tower to speak for the mayor from.   One thing a Cicada member tried to do was create armor from shed exoskeletons of smaller arthropods which were like the titans, but like a horse. This woman created the armor and clothes from all resources she was allowed, starting off by selling her own skin right before the next war started and the armor were surely help in the conflict to come. The armor was carved and molded to fit the citizen of the group ot was part of and some daring people attempted to sew the wings from the large wasps, moths, and other flying arthropods to their backs, hands, legs, anywhere were it would allow them to use the wings like the bugs and fly. This practice is still being tested today with wings and simply adding more limbs to someone by sewing it to a place close to a large nerve for them to actually make use of it and even the groups who reject the kingdom have attempted to do this on their own, adding leaches to their own limbs and mold to themselves, wearing it like casual clothing to tell others what group they were a part of and to become more tolerant and eventually able to live with the thing others would consider horrible to touch.   It is the start of 1000 and the next war started. Groups obsessed with new machine technologies became pirate groups, often sailing around both islands and raiding every village they could. These groups replaced limps and organs with crude mechanical clones and like other groups which did similar things the pirates lived with it. Other people which joined willingly had mechanical limbs and devices put on them and some people added their own things to the augmentations, coloring them, embedding metal playing into their skin, and sewing glass shells over their eyes and putting artificially made tears in so they would never need to blink.   The mechanical Pirates eventually got big enough to start a full scale war with the kingdom of Exotetala. The pirates for in it for the loot primarily and they wanted to be the group everyone wanted to be a part of which not a lot of people actually wanted to be. The pirates came to be called many things, Rusty Bodies, Metal Men, basically any combination involving rust, metal, copper, anything related to mechanical machines.   The Rusty Pirates made their first major attack at the end of the first year of 1000, kicking off the next war which the Ants took full responsibility for, having only their len fight the pirates in their engagements with them, but as more joined the pirates and they got more creative with their augmentations the Ants got others to join to help combat the ever changing threat and Bombardier weapons were a primarily weapon against the pirates since they were unfortunately enough to not have good quality in their augmentations, every augmentation the pirates had was crudely made, rusted, dented in unfixable ways and so on. The cheapness of the augmentations was great for the number of people they had, but overall a single man was just metal and flesh, so the pirates slowed their quick pace of pillaging for making better quality machines from clean metals.   With the refreshed technology in machinery the pirate threat was just as big as it started and bigger, forcing Exotelala to get rougher with their way of repelling them. The Lobsters, Crabs, Isopods, and Waterstriders were now being used like they should have been. Isopods shot up at the pirates from below the surface, using their hardened shell armors to make themselves the cannonballs and shot themselves up into the pirate ships and the Crabs served as tanky brutes that would simply board the ship and cause as much damage as possible.   The Refined Pirates slowly became less and less of the major threat and quickly dropped down to a mundane terror group that would attack every now and then at random until the year of 1660 when all pirate ships were destroyed and the pirates either went to prison or became a citizen of the kingdom.   Now the original augmentations the pirates had are rare to find in people and finding Machine Workers to put them on is harder ever since the conflict stopped. Should you go to the kingdom today, you'll find one augmented individual out of 300 wether the augmentation be a simple metal plating on their arm to a complete replaced body in turn for a brain in a robotic one.   At the start of 1000 the cicadas didn't want to be part of the war and most of them quit their jobs and dug out massive caverns under the islands and filled them with beds and rooms which they would sleep in for seven hundred years to the present day. Once all the bugs woke up their sound could be heard from both islands all around, alerting the kingdom of their awakening.   Now the kingdom has to change again to accommodate for the excessive amount of Cicada citizens which now takes up a whole seventh of the population on both islands.

History

Ancient- Islands simply populated with bugs and parasites, no farm land or birds even. Travellers from the sea arrived and made the islands a colony of their homeland, until their home kingdom become engrossed in other matters and left the colony to fend for itself.   As the people continued to explore, they found large versions of the arthopods they obbsessed over--some so big that they were able to build cities on thier backs and within thier shells.   907 - Modern Day Exotetala named "The Twin Isla" and emigration stops.   916 - Arto Divides built.   929 - First Major war between the Moths and the Mosquitoes   934 - Numbers War begins. The first war come to abrupt halt when the Wasp and Hornets allied and began to conquer the Nest Islands in reponse to an Ant invasion on the ground. This ushured in the second war.   966 - Many groups become independant and began to work on their own.   Wasps began attacking other groups. Forced spiders to give them silk and used the silk to connect unified islands.   Ants, Bees and Termites ally with eachother.   990 - Numbers War ends. Relative Peace. Ants were leading group. Alternative groups stay out of alliances and take the unwanted, wet, moldy, infested lands. Remain there to this day, claiming not to be part of Exotetala (though Exotetala disagrees.)   993 - Cicadas play important role as messengers, relaying news from island to island. One cicada learned to shet her skin and remold it to make armor for other groups. Cicadas began doing this and experimenting with adding wings or trying to add on body parts to nerves.   1000 - New war begins. Pirate groups pillage and become obssessed with new technology, replacing their limbs with metal clones, adding metal plates, artificial tears, etc. Ants lead the fight and use bombardier explosives to destory thier metal bodies. The "Rusty Pirates" take a repreive to upgrade their equipment, then returned. Water arthopods join the fight and resist. Cicadas do not wish to join war, so they dug massive caverns, filled them with beds and slept for 700 years.   1660 - Prates finally eradicated or join a kingdom.   1700 - Cicadas awake, overwhelming Exotetala population.
