Journal Entry Page 1

A very old and very ugly human has set up a camp nearby and has been attracting travelers by offering quests. This can’t be good for Fenwomples. I shall investigate further.   The ugly one calls himself Donindor. I snuck into his tent once while he was sleeping, but he was missing. I don’t know where he went because there’s no other way in or out of his hut. Puzzling.   A wealthy merchant came into the camp today. He had a very secret object in a chest. It was clear to me that he meant for me specifically to have it because he put such a simple lock on the chest. I know it was a very important object, but I can’t remember what it looks like or where I put it. No matter. I’m sure it will turn up in time.

More adventurers arrived in the camp. A curious group indeed. An elf with a rifle of a peculiar design. I’d like to get a closer look at it. She seems to be the type that wouldn’t mind me borrowing it.   Two among them spoke only with their hands. A most intriguing language, but not very practical I think.   A rather strange man dressed in white that seems to have a number of phobias. I must admit I am wondering who brought him here to begin with and why. For it’s obvious he would have never left his home on his own accord.   A rare treat - an Aldegourian. A most exquisite creature. I would dearly love to see it change shape. Tomorrow I may try to anger it or perhaps scare to get it to change to dragon form.   Most important of all, a Mantis from the Wilderness was among those that arrived today. I really must speak with her. She would certainly know many mysteries of the Wilderness. I must talk with her at length.

A halfling traded his map to me, but the Sheriff made me trade it back. That was terribly unkind of him. It was a most agreeable trade.   Many seemed to be interested in my news about the second moon. The Sheriff seemed to be skeptical and stopped me from sharing this extraordinary news with others. I really don’t like that man.   A cruel doctor with fuzzy hair called me ugly, which was ironic because he was a human. Why would he say such a thing. He should know that Fenwomples have feelings too.   Strange ghostly creatures attacked the camp. They seemed to flicker in and out of existence. What are they? I haven’t seen such a creature before and must know more about them.

Page 4

A group returned from a quest and claimed that more of the ghostly creatures attacked them. They believe them to be archers of Pale. A sighting like this hasn’t happened in 700 years. If these archers are indeed fighters of Pale, much could be learned from studying them. Why do they disappear and reappear randomly? Where do they come from? What do they hide under those masks? I must find a way to get more information.   One of the human females that speaks with her hands claimed she was taken captive today, but she was clearly with the adventurers as they left. I saw her myself. She claims a shape shifter took her form and stole the box that the ugly bearded man sent them to get. I don’t believe a word she says. She obviously stole the box herself and has deceived them all. I shall keep an eye on this one. Hmmm. I wonder what was in the box?

Today some in the camp encountered some sort of diseased bird man that wanted to blow himself up. Perhaps he was part Fenwomple. If you ask me, they should have let him do it. That would have been entertaining. They locked him in the jail, but he managed to escape. I’d like to know how he did that. That could be useful information since the Sheriff here dislikes me so much.   Some of the adventurers went to recover a special artifact that was stolen from a wealthy merchant. I wonder if that was the same wealthy merchant that gave me an artifact a few weeks ago.   When they all returned they couldn’t remember where they went or what they ran into. Too bad because I would have liked to have heard more about where they got this artifact. Perhaps there are more treasures to be had where it came from.

Word of black knights that had attacked a caravan came to town. Many of the adventurers left to go see what this was all about.   When they returned they had many tales to tell. It seems that the item that was in the box that was stolen a few days back was a powerful artifact that could be used to control people. I would very much like to have one of those. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about the Sheriff so much. Unfortunately it was destroyed.   The next day I arrived too late. They left to go collect two powerful objects. I was planning on going with them, but must have just missed them. My bags were packed and everything was ready. I really must get my hands on some of these powerful objects they keep speaking of.

The ugly, old man with a beard and several others returned today from their long journey. They told me of their efforts to collect the powerful artifacts and something about a shapeshifter.   Apparently they were only able to bring back one of the powerful artifacts that they went after. When I asked to see it, they said that they didn’t have it. It was hidden. I would very much like to see one of these powerful objects, but every time they go to get one it is stolen, destroyed or hidden away. I begin to wonder if these powerful artifacts are real or if these people are all just playing a joke on me because they know how much I want to see one.

When they returned a gnome princess from Kelindor accompanied them. I have always wanted to meet the gnomes of Kelindor. In years past I have traveled much to see different races and their technologies, but I have discovered just how nice this Adventurers Outpost is. The races from all over Ashnuw come here and bring their stories and technology. Many of the people traveling here have been so kind as to give me such interesting gifts.   The father of the gnome princess came to meet her and took her home.

Page 9

I followed the gnomes to their underground kingdom and spoke with them there. They are certainly a strange folk. A very scared people. I finally convinced them to talk to me and found out about a most incredible object. They told me they had been given a device that could be used to control the movements of rock worms.   It is a device of exceedingly strong magnetism. Since the rock worms are attracted to magnetic rock, this device can be used to lure them towards it.   They told me that they went to the continent Selmathil to get a rock worm from over there. They brought it back here to change the type of magnetism here. The concept doesn’t seem very practical, but I must admit that was an ingenious idea.

Page 10

The gnomes were supposed to give the magnetic device back to someone named Nehara, but a group of mercenaries stole it before they could give it back to him. This Nehara guy was apparently not happy about that at all. They said he went off to try to track down the mercenaries in order to recover the device.   Such a device sounds quite fascinating and very useful. I will try to follow them. I really must see this device for myself. I’m sure the mercenaries wouldn’t mind if I borrowed it since it isn’t really theirs to begin with.

Page 11

I don’t know where that Nehara guy went, but I found out where the mercenaries went. I heard that they were selling the device to whoever would pay the most. I asked if I could see it, but they became very defensive and told me that wasn’t going to happen. I tried to buy it from them, but I don’t think they took me seriously. They just laughed. I found out who did buy it though and followed them.   I wasn’t able to get in where they kept it, but after a while I learned one thing about what they are trying to do with it. I think the old, ugly man with a beard at Adventurers Outpost might want to know about this. I’d better get back to tell him.

Page 12

Adventurers Outpost appears to be much changed. The walls are higher and a new fortified gate has been constructed. Many men in blue tunics are all around the forest these days.   My good friend Fibberwentin wants to hear all about my travels and findings. I will tell him soon. First I must go speak to the old, ugly man with a beard that lives in Adventurers Outpost. I must tell him what I found out about that device the gnomes had. I now know who has it. They are doing something with it I think he should know about.   I think I know a way to get through that very inconvenient and rude gate they put up.

Last Words

(This document was locked in Ernenwhipple’s treasure chest)   These are the last words of Ernenwhipple Tellyfin Sunderdill III. Since you have opened my personal belongings and touching my things, I must be dead. I never expected to be dead at this point. It’s just not natural for a Fenwomple at my age to be dead. I have so much more work to do. Are you sure I’m dead? Please double check on that before you go any further.   As is customary, my possessions and research go to my Fenwoot. The most mysterious of my possessions is the red stone. I don’t know how to use it, but you know who I got it from and what he could do with it. Unlock its power and we will be among the most knowledgeable and wise Fenwomple clans of all.   I don’t care that none of you believe me. There really is a second moon always hidden from our sight. Someday I will be proven correct on that point and you will all have to recognize that I was right.
