Names of Ahnklefleebdloodle

Written by Dark Matter
"The practice of occupational naming became popular only a couple centuries after the founding of Ahnklefleebdloodle, and has been embraced wholeheartedly by its population ever since. According to this tradition, everyone has a given birth name, yet only family and very close friends know these names and birth names are nearly never used. Instead, whatever happens to be your occupation at the time, you will adopt a corresponding first name. For example, if you are an arrow maker, your name will be Fletcher. If you are a tailor, your name will be Taylor. If your job is grave digging, your name will be Doug. And if you are unemployed or in doubt, everyone will automatically resort to William. This habit can cause much confusion if there are many sailors on the same ship, but the people of Ahnklefleebdloodle claim it brings unity to the crew. They also say it helps people think before switching jobs because then they would have to relay their new name to everyone they know. Some speculate that this is the reason a quarter of the population is comprised of philosophers - the Ahnklefleebdloodlians very much like the name Philip - and also the severe lack of midwives (not many are willing to suffer the name Bertha, evidently)."   ~ excerpt from Traditions of Ahnklefleebdloodle by Paige the Sage
