Master Milo Burrows Milo Bungalow Burrows (a.k.a. Burrows)

“I’m going to become a hero. I’ll come back and by then everyone will know about the hero ‘Master Milo Burrows!’ I hope you’ll be proud of me.” He sat there, and before long, tears streamed down his face. He wept silently at the base of the tree with his hand on the stone that marked his mother’s grave. He missed her more than anything else.   –The Story of Milo Burrows Chapter 2

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Milo is quite sturdy for a Halfling his age. He’s not particularly strong, but because he travels a lot and helps many people, he is more fit than most Halflings

Facial Features

His face is slightly round with a pronounced jawline. His eyes are always gleaming, he never has suffered from severe facial blemishes, and he generally has a very kind face.

Identifying Characteristics

Other than being a Halfling, he has no physical features out of the ordinary.

Physical quirks

He stands tall (as tall as Halflings can stand of course) with very good posture, and his hair is almost always neatly combed. His friend Halfast jokes about how he has an unusually soft face, but it’s all in jest.

Apparel & Accessories

Milo generally doesn’t wear much footwear. He likes to go barefoot or wear sandals, but if the weather is cold or he simply has to, he wears boots. He has a very well-kept white shirt and a brown vest that he wears almost all the time, but washes them regularly. His most prominent piece of apparel is his deep blue cape that he always wears. He goes nowhere without it and almost never takes it off, even going so far as to use it as a blanket if he needs to. Lastly, he carries around a short sword by his side. The sword is old and chipped, but it’s a reliable weapon nonetheless.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Milo grew up in the small coastal town of Payna where he spent the first 32 years of his life. His mother was named Heril and his father was named Helt. His father worked as a fisherman and spent most mornings away from the house out to sea. His mother was the owner of the local tavern since her father, who was the previous owner, died of old age. He loved both his mother and father a great deal, but especially his mother. She spent most of her time at home with him and took care of him a great deal. He grew up being largely ignored and sometimes even bullied by several other kids in the local school. One day, he made a friend, Halfast Boffin. He grew very close to Halfast and they became the best of friends. At the age of 30 his mother died of a sickness that she was unable to fight off. About 2 years later, he decided that he was going to do what he always wanted to do, to set off and make a name for himself that everyone would know and respect. His father gave him a sword and he set off with Halfast for adventure.

Education

Milo was educated at the local school house, ‘Ms. Laera’s school and homestead’. It certainly wasn’t the best school, but it taught him well enough.

Employment

Currently, Milo travels throughout Ashnuw, looking for any kind of work he can do. All the work he does is completely respectable and generally avoids violence outside of simple hunting.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Milo, while traveling in Middlemarch, came across a village and a peculiar man named Donindor. He tried to help this Donindor find an artifact that he had lost, but ended up being captured by a mysterious man. Milo was eventually taken away and hypnotized to work for this man, who was later found out to be Athruu. Milo was eventually freed from his mind control and made it out alive. Milo considers this to be quite the achievement, that he could be hypnotized by a villain but make it out unscathed.

Failures & Embarrassments

Unfortunately, this feat that Milo viewed as an achievement turned out to go against his favor. He attempted to tell people of this event and all that had happened to him, but in the end, no one believed his story and mocked him for trying to fool them so. Even people who believed him told him that they thought it was more of a failure than an accomplishment of being hypnotized and manipulated in the first place. All in all, it did nothing for his reputation and may have even lowered people’s opinion a bit.

Mental Trauma

After the hypnosis of Athruu, Milo felt dizzy and quite uncomfortable, like he “had slept upside-down for a month or two” as he put it, but eventually the feeling faded away and he hasn’t suffered anything since.

Intellectual Characteristics

Even though Milo has been educated well enough, he is quite gullible. He knows much about his country’s history, basic math, grammar, and cooking, but he is prone to believe anything that he is told, no matter how unbelievable.

Morality & Philosophy

Milo has a good moral compass. He believes that if everyone in the world would only help each other in life, no one would feel unhappy or angry. He strives to help any good-natured person he can, and makes great strides to try to help those in need.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

As a kid, Milo talked about becoming “the greatest hero Ashnuw has ever seen!” so he strived to be that hero. One day, after being picked on by some bullies, Milo’s mother gave him a curtain for him to have as a cape, so he could move closer to becoming a “true hero”. When he became older, his mother passed away due to a sickness, and Milo was grief stricken with her passing, so when he left, he decided that he was going to do what she tried to help him do, become a hero. As a result, he strives to help out anyone and everyone in need, no matter how difficult the task may be, hoping that one day, he may find something that will earn him the reputation he desires.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Milo knows how to make a great variety of meals; he likes to eat a good meal, so he regularly carries around various spices. However, Milo isn’t very good at things that require a lot of physical strength or intellect, because he isn’t that quick of wit or notably strong.

Likes & Dislikes

Milo likes basically anyone he comes across, especially those who are kind and/or generous. Except, Milo strongly dislikes anyone who is particularly cruel, cold, villainous, or mean in general. One of Milo’s greatest enjoyments is food. He enjoys almost any kind of food, greens, fish, venison, pork, beef, chicken, etc. Anything you can think of to eat, Milo loves it.

Virtues & Personality perks

Milo is very kind and generous, as previously stated. He likes to help anyone he can and generally doesn’t like confrontation. He likes the simple things in life, so he is not prone to covetousness very often. He’s also loyal to a fault. If he makes a friend, he is certainly going to strive to help them and stick with them through thick and thin.

Vices & Personality flaws

Milo doesn’t do well in stressful or intense situations. He things through things too hard at times, so when his reflexes have to be fast, he can’t keep up very well. He is extremely gullible which makes him prone to fall into traps, and make “friends” with not-so-honorable people. He lacks any great physical strength, so he can’t help with much that requires strenuous activity. Lastly, although he likes to be helpful to other people, he doesn’t easily forgive people that have wronged him because he views it as a violation of his trust, and takes a lot of convincing to turn around his opinion of them.

Personality Quirks

Milo smiles… a lot. He also apologizes… a lot. If he’s not doing one or the other, he’s probably laughing or lost in thought.

Hygiene

Milo keeps as clean as he can, but never obsesses over it to be too concerned.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Halfast Boffin, Juniper, Beakerson, Maki, Ananias, Toumthin, Guiscard, and he generally is a friend with everyone who came to Donindor to help.

Family Ties

Only his father and mother.

Religious Views

Burrows has never thought too much about religion, but greatly desires to find himself in this aspect of life. He believes Elion exists and is a good being, but doesn’t know much more.

Social Aptitude

Milo makes many friends. Even if they aren’t close friends, he still enjoys meeting as many people as he can.

Hobbies & Pets

As stated previously, he greatly enjoys cooking, but has no pets to speak of.

Wealth & Financial state

Not much money. Just enough to pay for food and rooms at inns.
"This one would be one [Retirement Song] that he would sing with his father on the ship back in Payna. Its mostly a memorial to his father and mother. "Because his father basically lived through this song, and Burrows uses it as a bit of inspiration for where he wants to go with his life when he's older."

Circumstances of Birth:   Milo’s father, Helt, was a Halfling sailor who roamed the eastern sea, looking for work. He spent most of his life wandering from town to town and accepting any work that he was offered. He never stayed in one town for long, and he never even stayed on one ship for too long. One day, he came across a small town on the coast of Hoydvann named Payna. This was intended to be only another routine trip of visiting the town and leaving to find another one, but while he was there, he stopped at a local tavern and met the owner’s daughter, a young woman named Heril. She was fair of face and even fairer of spirit. He introduced himself and began talking with her. They talked about her family, the town she lived in, and what she did for a living. Before long, they were lost in conversation and began to enjoy one another’s company. They began to spend time with each other outside of the tavern, and after a while, it became quite evident that Helt did not want to leave Payna. Eventually, he decided that he wasn’t ever going to leave the island, but instead settle down and spend the rest of his life with Heril. They built a small house on the top of a hill that overlooked the town, and had a son together. They named him Milo.
