"The Heart of Beakerson" | Beakerson

Written by ThatGuyOverThere
Dr. Beakerson is wandering through the woods aimlessly. It was dark, probably almost midnight, a rainstorm sprung up leaving the Doctor soaked to the skin, but he didn't care. He outfit was a mess, yet he took no notice. His mind was rather disoriented from the previous battles. What went wrong?   Everything went wrong. Middle March had fallen, Guiscard and Kashi were both kidnapped and Jade....   Images flashed in Beakerson's mind of that final battle with Pale. He recalled the moment when he had been going through the battlefield to help the wounded when he spied Squire carrying the lifeless body of Jade. The very sight tore him apart from the inside. It was another casualty that he felt like should have been prevented....if he had only known. He hadn't realized she had fallen so far away from the group and now it was too late. It reminded him of Nichole's death. He couldn't take it and ran off into the woods without even thinking.   Beakerson had no idea how far he had gone, nor where in Middle March he was or if he even still was in Middle March. Nothing broke him more than to see his friends hurt or killed. And with all that had happened recently....it was too much for him. He continued wandering about until his legs couldn't carry him any further. He collapsed to his knees in the mud and looked up towards the sky. What tears ran down his face were lost in the rain that washed over him. He gave a loud cry before calling on his Maker. "ELYON!"   He paused for a moment. "Why Elyon, why!? What happened? Where did we go wrong? Where did I go wrong? Why did you send me out here? I've done everything I could and my friends are either dying or are captured. We lost Elyon we lost! I can't take this Elyon! I can't....I....I just wanted to make friends. Will the others die as well?"   Another pause. "Please help us Elyon! I don't know what to do! I....don't know...." Beakerson's voice trailed off. He took notice of a piece of paper nailed to a nearby tree.   He slowly made his way towards it and, despite being largely washed away from the rain, managed to read enough to know what it was. A decree to the land, informing the people of Baldwins demands. Beakerson saw the name of the man who had attacked the village, the one who had taken away Guiscard and Kashi. Rage began to build up in him. He pulled out his hammer and with another loud cry began to pound on the piece of paper as if he were pounding upon Baldwin himself. This went on for a moment before he felt a strong arm grab hold of his wrist. Beakerson turned to see who this was and looked into the eyes of his old friend. "Andy?"   Ananias's eyes were full of fear and concern for his friend. Never before had he seen him in such despair. "Barney what's going on?" he asked. "What happened?"   Beakerson didn't say a word as he collapsed into his friends arms and cried his heart out.   Ananias soon picked him up and looked him directly in the eyes. "Barney look at me. What happened?"   Barney grabbed the Monk's shoulders. "He took them Ananias! He took them!"   Ananias was puzzled. "Who Barney?" Beakerson's hands squeezed his friends shoulders tightly.   "Baldwin! Baldwin took Guiscard and Kashi away! A-and Jade...she's dead Andy she's dead!" Beakerson again fell into his friends arms.   Ananias didn't say anything as he began to piece together what had happened. "Then it's just as I feared."   "Why did Elyon send me here? To watch all my friends die?" Beakerson wailed.   "Don't you start thinking like that Barney." Ananias said as he sat the doctor up again. "You know as well as I do that Elyon has a purpose for what he asks of us. Do not let the hard times have you start doubting. This was not your fault." Ananias stared hard at Beakerson. "This was not your fault."   Beakerson wiped his face with his sleeve. "They were my friends Andy. They were like family."   Ananias nodded. "I understand, and I promise you we will not leave Guiscard and Kashi in Baldwins hands. We will get them back."   Beakerson was hesitant for a moment. "But how Andy? Is there any hope?"   Ananias replied firmly, "There is always hope. It's what you told me when you saved me. With Elyon's guidance, there is always hope to prevail over evil."   "But what can we do?" Barney asked. "We will do whatever it takes to get your friends back." Ananias replied. "I made you a promise. We will find them Barney."   Beakerson let's out a sniffle. "You're going to help us? Even if it means revealing who you once were?"   Ananias puts one hand behind Beakerson's head. "Even if it means losing my own life Barney. By Elyon's great mercy we will prevail. You will see your friends again."   Beakerson was now beginning to feel a little better. He pulled off his glasses and wiped his face with the back of his hand. "We should get help. I know Maki and Squire will be more than willing to join us."   Ananias agrees. "We'll need all the help we can get. It'll be a long journey. Are you certain your up for it?"   Beakerson nods.   "Then come, my friend. Let's get you out of the rain and in front of a fire before you catch a cold." Ananias helps Beakerson to his feet.   "For Jade?" Beakerson says.   "For Jade...and for Guiscard and Kashi." Ananias replies.   Beakerson takes a deep breath. "What of Sukoshi? When he finds out he might-"   Ananias cuts him off. "You let me worry about Sukoshi. You just talk with Maki and Squire." Beakerson forces a small smile. "Thank you Andy."   Ananias returns the smile. "Anything for you Barney." And with that, the two friends set out to a safe place away from Baldwin's army to begin preparations for the long and dangerous journey ahead.
