"Nichole" | Nichole, Guiscard, Beakerson, Squire, Acid Augar, Maki

The Forest Outside Adventurer's Outpost, Night of Game 2

Roleplayed by VioletofSherwood, Yankee Samarai, ThatGuyOverThere, Squirewalker, Swirling.Kirin and Commando Chipmunk.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t heal her,” Maki muttered with a huff. “That’s...never happened before.”   The wagon wheel breaks up against an unseen obstacle. The wagon comes to a halt.   The road is dangerous at night.   "Shhhh, don't talk Nichole. Just stay calm. We'll help you out as soon as we get back to camp." Beakerson says.   “No! No NO!” Guiscard shouts.   Beakerson looks up. "What's wrong Guiscard?"   “RAAAAAA!” Guiscard tears off the wheel, seeing that it is broken, and tosses it into the night.   There is the sound of breaking glass in the dark woods.   Guiscard draws his sword.   Beakerson pulls out hammer.   Maki yawns and pulls her hoodie over her head.   Squire runs to her master's side, holding up the Kokkan potion. "Do you think it would work?"   Hope comes into Guiscard's eyes. “Yes!” He takes the vial.   Nichole’s lips are almost white. She whispers. “... I don't want to die... not anymore... but glad I could help you and repay the debt…”   “Quiet Nichole! There will be no death, not today...come on, drink.” Guiscard cradles Nichole.   "Stay with us Nichole. You're going to be okay." Dr. Beakerson says.   A new voice sounds. “Save your potion.”   A cloaked figure comes from the woods.   Maki lifts her head. Her eyes wide. “Uh oh.”   "One more step and we shall pummel you into the Abyss!" Guiscard shouts.   Beakerson points the hammer at the figure. "Who goes there, creepy?"   Nichole’s heartbeat is irregular and her vision is going in and out.   The cloaked figure pauses and takes off her cloak. Long red hair billows out and you realize it is a woman in her 40s, but very young looking as well. “Do not worry. I can help her.”   "Forgive me mademoiselle, but I do not feel obliged to hand my friend over to a stranger in the woods." Guiscard says.   Maki looks up at Guiscard, a small hint of gratitude in her eyes.   "And just who the heck are you anyway?" Dr. Beakerson demands.   Acid nods in agreement at Beakerson’s question.   The woman takes a step closer and holds out a scroll. “I am a healer of Maire Glaise. I come in peace. Here is my pass and identification of Maire Glaise Peace Treaty.”   Nichole hears the voice and turns to look.   Squire turns around. "She is Maire Glaise, Guiscard!"   “Move aside. You're medicines and remedies will be of no help to her now,” the healer says.   “I’ll say,” Maki muttered.   "Wait a minute, how do we know you are really from Maire Glaise?" Dr. Beakerson asks.   Nichole's wrist is turning black and blue from bruises, and her skin is becoming clammy. Squire's eyes beg.   Guiscard consents. "Take ease, madam! You have one chance to prove it!"   Nichole suddenly feels the urge to throw up. She vomits over the end of the wagon.   Maki winces. Acid Sugar ties up Nichole’s hair so it out of her face. Beakerson is somewhat horrified at the sight of vomit, but does his best to ignore it in order to help his friend.   The Healer takes a closer look at Nichole and rushes past them. “Nichole! What's happened. Tell me. Show me.”   Squire and Guiscard exchange looks, also with Beakerson: They know each other?   Squire rushes to their side. "Please do something!"   Guiscard lowers his guard. Sword touches the dirt. “I do not know. I do not know how to help.”   "How do we know she can help Nichole? How do we know anything she is saying is the truth?" Beakerson insisted.   Maki scoots on her belly a little closer to Nichole, her eyes fixed on the healer. “It’s okay, Beakerson. I’ll just fry her if she does something weird.”   Nichole meets the gaze of the other healer. Fear, hurt, and uncertainty flashes across her eyes.   The Healer frowns and takes Nichole's hand. “Nichole show--” She pauses.   Nichole closes her eyes for a moment.   Both healers are quiet then Nichole goes completely unconscious.   The healer says, with caring still in her voice but an undertone of ridicule. “Stupid Girl, what have I…” she lowers head for a moment. “What have I done…” She looks up at the others. “I need water, a fire, and--” She looks at Squire.   Squire jumps in her boots. signs Me?   The woman takes off her traveling cloak to reveal a dark blue travelling dress with a brown satchel much like Nichole's.   Guiscard hits Squire with the flat of his sword, pushing her to the Healer's side.   The Healer gives Squire a reassuring smile. “Yes, because you are the closest one too her here. Take her left hand and keep talking to her. She can still hear you, but keep your gloves on. I don't need her accidentally using her powers.”   Squire nods, excited to help.   Beakerson whispers "Can we trust this woman Guiscard?"   Maki still watches the Healer, now completely sagged into the wagon. “I think she’s okay, Beakerson.”   The Healer opens up the satchel. “You.” She points at Beakerson. “You're a healer or Doctor correct?”   "Can you Doctor?" Guiscard asks.   “Take these herbs and boil them into a hot tea.” the Healer says.   Beakerson looks around then points at himself. "Me?"   The Healer hands him some herbs. She meets his gaze with piercing blue eyes. “Yes, you.”   Guiscard hits Beakerson with the flat of his sword, pushing towards the healer as well.   "Ow, alright I'll do it!" Beakerson says.   Acid Sugar jumps up to join him. “I’ll help you!”   The Healer starts rummaging through her satchel again and pulls out three glowing stones. “Nichole, child. What have you done to yourself. You were supposed to stay out of danger.”   “It is not entirely her fault Mademoiselle. I to am to blame for this,” Guiscard says.   “You are only partially to blame for this sir Knight.” The Healer continues working, not looking over at Guiscard.   "Hey, Guiscard I recognize those stones. They'll be able to help Nichole, but we must do as Scarlett here says." Beakerson says.   Guiscard motions to pick up Nichole. “There is a camp fire some yards back in that direction, but it is dangerous, so if you please madam...we must move swiftly”   “No, don't move her. Make one here.”   Maki groans. She slides one hand across the wagon floorboards towards a patch of the forest floor and blasts a stream of fire into it. The sticks burst into flame.   “That’s seriously it for tonight, guys,” she hissed, burrowing back into her hoodie. “You all get to keep it alive. I couldn’t even if I wanted to.”   The Healer grabs a small bottle from her bag and wets the stones then pours some in Nichole's mouth.   Nichole’s breathing gets more shallow.   Beakerson hands the woman the freshly brewed tea."Here you go."   “Not now,” the Healer hissed. “Shards! Don't do this to me Nichole! You have to many people who care about you,” the Healer hissed.   Squires grip tightens.   To keep his swelling eyes busy, Guiscard looks about to ensure the coast is clear. He did not think Nichole was dying, but now the Maire Glaise healer is showing worry...he knows he, Squire, and Beakerson are helpless.   "Please help her..."   The Woman breaks a stone, water dripping over Nichole's arm. A silver rock falls from the stone. “I need someone to crush this into a fine powder and mix it with this!” She holds up a small bottle. “NOW.”   Beakerson takes it from her and gets to work on it. "Here Guiscard, hold the tea."   “Yes doctor...yes.” Guiscard nods. “Good Doctor.” He gulps.   “Who did she heal? What was wrong with them and how…?” the Healer pauses as she sees the scar on her arm from the peddler. She traces her finger over the scar. “Oh…”   Maki narrows her eyes, watching Nichole closely. She studies the scar.   “Don't drink the tea Guiscard! It's for Nichole! Just hold it.” Beakerson hissed.   Acid glares at Guiscard staying by him watching the tea making sure he doesn’t drink it.   The Healer frowns as she examines the scar more closely. “When did she get this scar?”   "Some time ago I think." Dr. Beakerson said. "I healed it myself."   “It was not more than a couple days ago.” Guiscard says.   “I see.” The Healer says. She brings out an herbal knife like Nichole's and breaks another stone and wets the blade. She uses the blade to re-open the wound. “While you healed the wound Dr. Traces of the poison is still in her system. It's like an iron poisoning and will deactivate or greatly slow her natural healing process.”   "Can you get it out of her completely?' Dr. Beakerson asked.   The Healer opens the wound and starts to swap out Nichole's arm with some of the water from the broken stone. “I can try. Did you finish mixing the ingredients?”   "Yes yes, here you go." Beakerson hands them over to her   The Healer takes them and starts to run her fingers in the liquid. “Perfect Dr.”   Maki hesitates, then finally asks, “Who gave that scar to her?”   The Healer takes the last stone and dips it in the solution. Then forms the stone into a long almost flexible needle. Pushes the needle into Nichole's arm watching her arm closely. “Come, Nichole. Keep fighting.”   “You can make it through this keep fighting Nichole!” Acid Sugar encourages.   Beakerson watches in anticipation   Tears well in the woman's eyes as Nichole's breathing all but stops “Please, Nichole! I'm sorry for not telling you the truth. This is my fault. Please, don't die, not yet. Not when there is so much more to tell you!”   Guiscard whips around. “IS SHE DYING?   The Healer doesn't look at him but does a quick nod of her head. “I've done all I can. It's just a matter of how she responds to the treatment.”   Beakerson grabs Nicholes wrist. "Her pulse is still weak."   Maki stares at Nichole, her eyes wide. She doesn’t move.   “Nichole, listen to me. I know what happened. I-- I also know you've made many friends while on this journey, you've healed them, fought with them, and was willing to die for them.”the Healer said. “Nichole, I have one last thing to say.” She pushes back a sob. “Please... please be willing to live for them too! I'm sorry I pushed you so hard. I'm sorry I made things worse. But look at all the good you've done. You're right. You are different, but that's what will make you one of the best healers. I promise, I'll tell you what I can about your parents, but LIVE you have to live!!” She half-chuckles half-sobs. “Yes, this is blackmail.”   Guiscard listens.   Squire listens. She tugs on Beakerson, asking if he has anything   “What do you need to help her?” Guiscard asks the Healer.   The Healer looks up at Guiscard. “Just talk to her.”   Guiscard breathes heavily, not the answer he wanted to hear. "There is a camp not far, perhaps we can strap her to that horse and ride her off?"   "I can try using heal all wounds, but she said it didn't get all the poison out the last time. But I guess I can try." Dr. Beakerson says.   “It didn’t work when I tried,” Maki murmured, her tone sober.   The Healer stands and walks to the edge of the woods, silent sobs shaking her shoulders as she tries to gain her composure. She turns around to face the others.   "Hey, where are you going?" Dr. Beakerson asks.   Guiscard stares at the ground.   “It won't help her. Only the healing stones can have any hope of affecting her body…” the Healer said. “She... she used up her ability.”   Guiscard’s face shakes.   Squire clenches Nichole’s hands, eyes have a fearful determined look. She whispers, “You won't die. You can’t die…”   “NO!” Guiscard retrieves his Kokkan potion. "Pour this into her blood Nopre'om! Doctor! Give it all you got! Hurry!"   “I don't know what just happened but whatever it was she used her ability to heal herself for a quick fix, but she must have already reached her limit, because once the adrenaline rush was gone her body gave out. That's why it's having a reverse effect on her now,” the Healer said.   Maki closed her eyes in understanding. She sighed.   “BE QUIET! She will not die! Nopre'om, unstrap that horse from the wagon! I can get to town...I CAN!” Guiscard shouts.   Squire gives her potion. She looks stubbornly for a moment, hesitant to leave Nichole.   The Healer meets Guiscard's gaze. “And how will the town help?”   “There are other healers there! Perhaps they can do something!” Guiscard says.   "Sorry lady, but we aren't going to give up on her." Dr. Beakerson says.   “Exactly Dr. Beakerson!” Acid Sugar shouts.   “Even if you could, she probably wouldn't make the journey,” The Healer says.   Squire unstraps the horse quickly for Guiscard and returns to Nichole’s side.   Guiscard carries Nichole, places her on the horse.   The Healer blinks, partially stunned. “Yet, someone told her it would be better for her to die? Is that person at that camp?”   "That man was a great fool!” Guiscard gets in saddle and takes reigns.   Squire signs. Godspeed!   "Wait!" the Healer called. “Make her drink this!” She hands him the tea that had been made.   "Take her to my tent Guiscard. I may be able to help her further." Dr. Beakerson says.   The Squire looks doubtful of Giuiscard’s plan.   “If she wakes up enough to swallow make her drink it. It'll give her energy back,” The Healer added.   Guiscard takes the tea canister. “HIYA!” His horse gallops into the night.   Squire signs after him: I’ll catch up as soon as I can. Squire hustles her things together and sets off.   Beakerson sets off as well.   Acid whistles for Velvet and jumps on setting off to the village.   The Healer looks at the others after they leave. “I've tried everything. It's in Elyon's hands now…”   Maki alone still lays in the wagon. She looks at the Healer.   “I think we need to talk about some things,” she mutters.
“FASTER!” Guiscard cries. It is difficult, navigating the woods in the dark.   Up a hill, across a stream, another hill. Middlemarch comes in sight when he notices Nichole's very pale complexion. She is almost white pale. The wounds that she healed throughout the day are showing with great vengeance on her. Her lips are almost so white they have a grayish blue hint.   Guiscard dismounts, deciding he must administer the tea straight away. He slides her off the horse. She lies in his arms as he pours the hot liquid.   Even unconscious, Nichole had she heard everything that was said. She doesn't want to die but can hardly breathe, she wants them to know she's okay now. That Elyon spoke and she's alright and is okay dying in a way like this vs by her own hands like she'd wanted to earlier, yet she can't make herself wake up. She can't tell them she's sorry, and that she forgives them. She can't make her arms and legs move, but she hears them. She hears them...   Guiscard watches the liquid bounce off her lips, reality begins to sink in. “I'm sorry Nichole! clutches her tightly Wake up! Please wake up! I’m so sorry!”   Nichole senses the connection and since she's unconscious she can't control her ability completely, and sees Guiscards traumatic memories.   She feels all of the pain, fear, anxiety. She lives through those moments.   Most importantly she understands he has tried to live a life pleasing to Elyon, but is guilty because he has so many failures, and thus wanted nothing but to prove himself, and so became rigid.
Squire rides madly back to camp.
Nichole stills and prays. Elyon, don't let me die yet, please... give me the strength to speak, just for a moment. She feels sick from nausea.   Nichole spoke, her voice barely audible. “Stop, Guiscard…”   Her eyelids still refuse to open and she just prays he can hear her.   “I'm sorry... none of us understood... at first…” she said.   Guiscard snaps to. "Nichole!" He gently leans her back so their eyes are level.   Nichole’s eyelids open, but everything is blurry. “You and I are more alike than I realized... that's why you care...I get it now though... I'm sorry for everything you've been through... I wish I could fix it... but you believe in pain...Guiscard... d- don't just take the pain, all that will do is build up walls... pain comes so we can truly know and appreciate the feeling of being healed…”   “Nichole…” Guiscard said. “It is I who must apologize, I couldn't see...I couldn't see…”   “That's why... that's why Elyon came... to not only set us free but to heal our pain.” Nichole said. “You don't have to be a martyr... Elyon... Elyon told me... he came that we might have life... life more abundantly... learn from pain... but ultimately live, true sacrifice is loving others the way Elyon has loved us... there is a time for everything... He... He showed me that…”   “He did?” Guiscard nods. “Nichole...listen.” He pauses, searching for words. “You...what you are saying...I don’t know how you know, but you are right...Elyon's mercy you are right...and I was wrong to ever think you were…” He chokes. “Lesser...” He grows angry at himself for not finding the right words. “And you must know how important it is, to Squire and to myself, that you live.”   Nichole smiles weakly. “I want to live... but... I don't think... I can make it on this next part of the journey…”   Guiscard’s sorrow passes for a moment. “You, you have d-...you have d-died...in sacrifice then. No Martyr could have asked for a better death.”   Nichole gives a small smile. “Tell, Nopre'om, I've never had... a better friend…” Her arms get weaker and breath gets shallower.   “Nichole? Nichole!?” Guiscard says.   Nichole stops breathing.   She goes completely limp.
Squire rides desperately, praying the whole way...feels a sudden sharp pain in her heart.
Anger and sorrow return to Guiscard, but controls it. Leans to whisper. “Do you see it? Do you see Him? Can...can you tell me what He looks like?”   He cries a silent, river of tears.   "I'll tell Nopre'om-no! I'll let her place your lumistone in Vachelous! And do not worry about her, or any of your other friends...thank you for helping show their value to me.” He kisses her forehead "Go into Elyon's arms...I'll protect your friends, I promise!"   Guiscard rides into town.   ...they see the limp body of the Maire Glaise Healer, the solemn, yet unflinching expression of the Knight...the message is passed.   Questions of "What happened?” “The Sheriff went looking for you, where is he?” “Oh no! That is the Healer we saved today!” circulate through the crowd   Squire pulls the horse to a stop in the town and abandons it to Beakerson. She pushes her way through the crowd.   Acid stops Velvet dismounts and rushes after Squire.   Other friends of Nichole come forward. Guiscard dismounts. He does not push as they gather close to see their dead friend.   Beakerson dismounts and runs over to the knight. He checks one last time for a pulse. When he finds none he looks at Guiscard. "I'm sorry." With his hand he closes Nichole's eyes.   "Thank you Doctor, and where is-?" Guiscard starts.   Squire finally pushes her way to the front.   She stops in her tracks when she sees Nichole.   Acid gasps and places a gentle hand on Squire’s shoulder trying to comfort her.   Her eyes flood with tears. “Nichole?”   Guiscard kneels, Nichole resting in his lap. He looks up at Squire.   Beakerson sees Squire. He shakes his head. "We were too late."   “No…” Tears pour down Squire’s cheeks. “No! Elyon why--?”   Guiscard says with solemnity "No Doctor, I think it was just her time." He opens one arm, inviting Nopre'om.   Squire falls to her knees beside Guiscard and holds Nicholes hand, letting her tears go.   With his open arm, Guiscard embraces his Squire, and they mourn together   Beakerson stares at Nichole as the tears come to his eyes. He falls to his knees. "I'm sorry Nichole. I tried to help you. Now it looks like I must bid you farewell....Dear friend."   Guiscard hisses to Squire "Shh! Do not blame Elyon! You understand this right? He understands all pain.” He pulls her out gently so their eyes can meet. “But some pain, is so He can bring great healing...You were the best friend she ever had Nopre'om. She sees Elyon now!”   Squire’s tears slow as she listens. Slowly looks up at Guiscard briefly, with a new understanding in her eyes.   Beakerson looks up at Guiscard. "Do you think she considered me a friend?"   “She was a healer. Everyone was her friend.” Guiscard said.
Other friends of Nichole come with blankets to wrap the body. Sheriff Orstride returns to receive the terrible news. But all cannot remain in sorrow, for the camp prepares for it's a long journey in the morning, and though Nichole now departs in body, she has helped solidify Unity in the group, and encouraged many who were distrustful to begin finding healing...her last miracle in life.   Guiscard requests that Donindor delay their time of departure long enough for Nichole to receive a burial ceremony in the morning. Under the circumstances, Donindor and Guiscard agree to rise earlier than planned to make sure this happens   Acid Sugar has started crafting something that she hasn’t let anyone even peek at in honor of Nichole’s life.   Beakerson also officially offers his services to Maki knowing she and Nichole were good friends. It would be his way of trying to honor Nichole, by helping her friend. He feels somewhat responsible for not being able to heal her.   Squire continues to mourn Nichole to herself. Sorting out her pain in confusion in her solitude time with Elyon.
