"Lumistone" | Squire

Written by Squirewalker
Nopre’om sits alone, in the forest, tears streaming from her eyes, past her mask. Yesterday’s painful memories played in her head. Where was Guiscard? Where was Kashi? Liars of the Order she pledged herself to, taking both away from her. A day hadn’t passed since she was reunited with her beloved master, after falling that terrible height. Jade dying before her eyes. Even Nichole’s death, whom she thought she had healed from, barraged her mind.   She also thought of the people she had grown to care about deeply; Acid Sugar, Bearkerson, Maki, Aisha, Monsieur Donidor...even the ones she didn’t know as well, Nasca, Serafina, Eragon, Dronin, Tovian, the Dragon...even Dr. Wheednut, whom her master despised, she liked...   Why did she care so much?, she scolds herself through her hurt. You're a mute squire, they probably never even noticed you.   But she didn’t have to be a squire anymore. She could return to her Order...She could become a knight. Guiscard had said so before, twice.   After all, wasn’t that want she always wanted to be? A knight? A martyr? Wasn’t that still what Elyon wanted her to be? She learned in the Order, that misfortune was brought by Elyon to teach his followers lessons in sacrifice.   Nopre’om cries again, lost in her confusion. Being a Martyr made sense. After all the misfortune bestowed on her; She could walk away from it all now and claim the honor waiting for her at home…   But, deep down she knows if she ran away from this, something would break inside her...the idea that Eleyon wasn’t a bringer of pain...He wouldn’t break her like this...He was good. He was love. And in turn she would feel the same. If she lost that light in her, where would she be?   Nopre’om wipes her tears away, and turns to face the path where she last saw Guiscard being dragged away.   She knows there will be confusion in her still...there will be questions on her place in the Order...there will be more trials...there would be fear of what she will find at the end…   But she wasn’t a knight...she was a squire.   And squires stick by their masters, no matter what.   She wasn’t just a hopeless Martyr...she was a Lumnistone…Guiscard had said so, twice.   Perhaps he had spoken from the heart of Elyon.
