"Eragon's Gain" | Eragon

Written by Eragon Brightsteel
...During the final battle with Pale, Eragon attempted to attack Pale. Very quickly however he was blasted with a lightning bolt and he lost his left arm permanently...   After the battle as everyone went home he was both mourning and celebrating as he had lost his arm but also because Pale was defeated. On his way back, footsore and confused, he had an idea. When Eragon entered his hometown he didn't stop at his house, the tavern, or anywhere else; he strode purposely towards the forges of the legendary Andor Lath'ol, The Master Blacksmith.   Through some miracle Eragon managed to negotiate and haggle with the Blacksmith so that he would create for him a Mithril arm. This arm, in order to work properly, must have enough human parts inside it (i.e. nerves, tendons, etc.) to be able to meld with the human body. Master Lath'ol spent many hours toiling over a furnace in order to create this masterpiece. When he finished it was a beautiful sight indeed, but still one more task had yet to be accomplished. Eragon paid the master and set off for the surgeon...   When Eragon asked the surgeon to attach the arm for him the man stood dumbfounded. "You want me to attach that... THING... to your shoulder?" After a few hours of convincing Eragon finally managed to get the man to do it. This is a long process however. You can attach the arm immediately but it will take a while for your body to grow and connect with it. Even after that it will take time mastering the motor skills of using a foreign limb. Eragon spend many long hours practicing with his sword regaining all of his skills with the blade. As he practiced a fierce joy surged through him. An uncontrollable grin appeared on his face. He had his arm back, better than ever...   Thus concludes a quick account of how Eragon loses his arm and receives a new one. One that is nearly indestructible; one that can block a blade with impunity; one that is made of one of the strongest metals in Ashnuw... Mithril.
