Battle Master
Those who emulate the archetypal Battle Master employ martial techniques passed down through generations. To a Battle Master, combat is an academic field, sometimes including subjects beyond battle such as weaponsmithing and calligraphy. Not every fighter absorbs the lessons of history, theory, and artistry that are reflected in the Battle Master archetype, but those who do are well-rounded fighters of great skill and knowledge.
Student of War
At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with one type of artisan's tools of your choice, and gain proficiency in an additional skill from the fighter class list.
Combat Superiority
Also when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you become a master of maneuvers on the battlefield appearing to naturally integrate maneuvers that other fighters may do clunkily. Once per turn you may use a martial maneuver without expending a martial die as long as the maneuver has no level prerequisite.
Additionally, you learn an additional 2 maneuvers, and whenever you roll a martial die, you may roll it twice and choose one of the results to use.
Know Your Enemy
Starting at 7th level, You gain proficiency in the martial skill, or existing martial proficiency becomes expertise.
Battle Standards
Also at 7th level you gain unique flags to invoke special commands to your allies around you. As long as you have a free hand to hold the banner, or are wielding a reach weapon with a flag attached to it, you may raise one of the following banners, with a range of 30ft:
-Strike: Once per turn, when a creature makes a melee attack you may add a d4 to the attack roll
-Rush: Once per turn, you may grant a creature an additional bonus action on their turn.
-Retreat: Once per turn, you may grant a creature an additional 15ft of movement.
You may concentrate on "holding" a banner for up to 1 minute as a spellcaster would a spell, if you make attacks with the weapon which your banner is attached to, you take a -1 penalty to any concentration save you make for each attack you made with the weapon. Once you have used this feature, you may not do so again until you have finished a short or long rest.
Leadership Surge
Beginning at 10th Level, Whenever you use your action surge ability you can cause one creature you can see, and that can hear you within 30ft. That creature may use its reaction to immediately take an action. If that action is to make an attack, they can only make one attack with that action.
Strength in Numbers
Beginning at 15th level, The more comrades you rally to your cause, the greater your leadership potential. When you roll for initiative, you gain a number of your expended martial Dice equal to the number of allied creatures within 15 feet of you.
Additionally the radius of your banners becomes 45ft
Battlefield Commander
Beginning at 18th level your leadership is unmatched, you gain the following benefits:
- Your banner can be attached to a mount, shield or piece of armor, Instead of needing a free hand.
- Your banner is now a passive effect which you do not need to maintain concentration on, and you may switch which banner is active by expending an attack.
- When another creature makes an attack, you may apply the effects of a battle maneuver of your choice, without expending a martial dice, as long as the battle maneuver has no prerequisite. Once you have done so, you may not do so again until after your next turn.
