Kobolds
A small, weak yet crafty bunch, those little dragonspawn.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Kobolds are small reptilian humanoids created to resemble dragons. It is said that the dragon lords created the kobolds in their imagine to guards and care for their lairs.
As such kobold come in quite a variety of colours, many kobolds have scales, but a uncommon feature and fur covered types do exist.
Thus kobold clans may come as varied as their creator envisions.
Genetics and Reproduction
Much like dragons, kobolds lay hard-shelled eggs that incubate for a period between 45 and 60 days, after which they hatch using their distinctive cranial horn buds. Although only six to eight inches in height at birth, neonatal kobolds are able to quickly take care of themselves, often spending the first hour after birth eating the remains of their shells. Cannibalizing other clutchmates is not unheard of and is seen by the adults as a sign of strength.
Kobolds are also sequential hermaphrodites, meaning they are born as males, but may develop into females later in live. If a clan of kobolds is lacking in females, the strongest male of the clan switches to female. Where as over all sexual dimorphism is small, females are typically stronger than their male counter parts as result. Often leading to matriarchal societies.
Kobolds remain fertile throughout their entire adult lives, with females able to produce an egg once every 20–25 days. Given ideal conditions, however, females can lay a clutch of up to six eggs, and require a coupling only once every six years in order to produce viable eggs. Kobold females become more fecund as they age: a 40-year-old female may be able to lay 50 to 60 eggs per year, while an 80-year-old female may lay up to 100 per year.

Growth Rate & Stages
Hatchlings grow quite quickly and double in size every year until achieving their juvenile state at around three. They are considered to be full adults around age 10. Most kobolds are quite short-lived, with a typical life-expectancy of around 30 years before typically dying through violent means. However, when their lives are not cut off early, they have also been known to live for quite a long time, with the oldest kobolds claiming their age to be 140.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Kobolds are omnivores and will eat almost anything their sharp teeth can chew and their strong digestive system can process. Like other reptilian creatures, kobolds have a slow metabolism, which means they require little food and drink to survive. This adds to their diligent work ethic, as they require few meal and water breaks, and increases their ability to survive in the nutrient-poor underground environment.

Civilization and Culture
Gender Ideals
Kobold societies recognize 3 different gender roles. Draka, Snaga and Cherro.
Draka are matriarchs that hold the most power in government, warfare and religious matters, but caring for mundane things like farming and cooking is far beneath them, those aspects are left to the subservient Cherro instead who in turn have the least power in the aspects the Draka hold strong. The Snaga on the other hand typically set the local magic, music and education of younger Kobolds they care even less for cooking then the Draka somehow, truly relegating that to the Cherro.

Courtship Ideals
Draka court a harem of Cherro to procreate, but tend to have fun with all genders. For the Cherro themselves, courting a Draka is the heighest honor, but romantic relationships with Snaga are common. Much like the Draga, Snaga tend to seek out a larger group of Cherro to court, but also have fun amongst themselves.
