Ursuin
The ursuin is a stocky carnivore endemic to the forests and hills of the north, particularly Aluvia. Various species of ursuin range from three feet at the shoulder to as high as seven, with the smaller species hunting and foraging in small packs while their larger kin roam alone. The beast vaguely resembles a bear with powerful hooves in place of claws. Its ears are large and sensitive, and great tusk-like fangs protrude from its upper jaw.
Though dangerous predators, ursuin are erratic in their habits. An ursuin surprised by an unwary traveler is as likely to flee as to attack, and might even completely ignore the intruder as it goes about its business. They are highly adaptable and opportunistic, as happy to dine on carrion, roots, and insects as they are to run down live prey.
