Nuo
A much larger relative of baboons and shugs, the nuo's reputation as a hunter is legendary among the Sho. Unlike their smaller kin, nuo are generally solitary, lying in wait in undergrowth or low tree branches to leap upon unwary prey. Also unlike other monkeys, nuo are almost entirely predatory. They supplement a diet of fresh meat with grubs, roots, and the occasional piece of fruit. Their limbs are adapted for swift movement over the forest floor, and they are less adept climbers than other primates. The nuo's striped coat and predatory nature has earned it the somewhat inaccurate moniker of 'tiger ape'.
In Sho folklore, the nuo is a malicious trickster, often using clever words and disarming courtesy to lull victims into lowering their guard before devouring them.
