Fengi

The Sho have always held beauty in high regard, a sentiment expressed in their art, poetry, and architecture.  Small wonder, then, that they consider the fengi bird to be sacred.   In shape, a fengi resembles a cross between a pheasant and a raven, its plumage a riot of red, orange, and yellow.  Its magnificent crown and long, flowing tail shimmer with an almost pearlescent sheen, and its song is sweet and melodious.  Scholars believe the fengi to be the basis for the Firebird of Splendor, one of the three Elder Spirits revered by the Sho.  It is a great crime among the Sho to kill or capture a fengi; not even the Emperor would dare cage such a creature.
