Armor
Though some brave, foolhardy, or skilled warriors charge into battle unarmored, most would consider you mad to enter the fray without some form of protection.
Though providing little in the way of direct protection from strikes, a robe is lightweight and obscures the body enough to occasionally turn a hit into a miss - as a result, robes are the preferred battle garb of mages and other scholars.
Light armor most often consists of layers of quilted cloth or leather, sometimes reinforced with metal studs. Amuli is a lightweight vest of laminated metal worn over a padded robe, while Chiran armor is a form of padded armor unique to the Sho.
Most medium armor is made of mail - a layer of interlocking metal rings or overlapping scales. Yoroi consists of laminated metal strips, while half-plate protects the shins, forearms, and chest with metal plates. Diforsa plate is a refined form of half-plate forged for the rank-and-file of Viamont's armies, and has become iconic of their aggressive imperialism.
Heavy armor usually consists of metal plates that cover most of the wearer's body, making them nearly impervious to blows at a certain cost to balance and stealth.
