Harpy

Once beautiful Elven women, harpies are horrific creatures that eat the flesh of mortals and use their bones in their nests. Harpies were cursed to be maddened bird women, obsessed with pain and death.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Harpies have wings on their arms as opposed to hands and have plumage rather than hair. They also have talons for feet that they use to slash at opponents.

Genetics and Reproduction

Rumors say that harpies would kidnap men to have their children, but in truth, there are male harpies. These males look, sound and act identical to female harpies and they reproduce normally. Harpies produce eggs that are carefully watched over by the Grandmother of the scream.

Ecology and Habitats

Most harpies live in coastal cliffs and dash their targets into the rocks to kill them, however isn't unusual for a scream of harpies to inhabit forests, mountains and lakesides. They build nests in high places in order to keep their eggs safe, common places include in the boughs of trees, in the sides of cliffs and on small rocky islands in lakes.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Harpies are fond of fresh meat and enjoy tormenting and torturing humanoid meals that they capture.

Harpies come from Khusan but have since spread to Bree and Ereve.

Major Organizations

Dreadfeathers: The Dreadfeathers were a scream of harpies that operated near Horkholm in the forest of Galdrak. Their plumage was white and they wore red and white body paints. Unlike other screams they learned to keep their distance from settlements for the safety of their eggs and only attacked those that wandered too deep into Galdrak. They were lead by a Grandmother named Thistle.

They view Aarakocra as sickening reflections of themselves and are filled with hatred towards them.
It's not unheard of for harpies to adopt orphaned children of other races as their own.
