The Grasping Twins

Appearance:

A dark silver ring etched with faint runes only visible in moonlight. When activated by a mental command, it expands into a sleek adamantine gauntlet, plating the wielder’s dominant arm up to the elbow. The metal is smooth, layered, and darker than steel. A twin ring exists — designed to complete the set.

Base Functionality

  • Gauntlet Expansion
With a mental command, the ring expands into a full adamantine gauntlet in an instant. The transformation is seamless and does not hinder Dexterity. It may remain active for up to 30 minutes per short rest before reverting to its ring form.
  • Invisible Form (Optional)
Once per short rest, the gauntlet may become invisible, leaving the wearer armored but visually unarmed. This effect lasts for up to 10 minutes, or until dismissed. The gauntlet is still detectable by magical means.
  • Hunter’s Pull
The ring exerts a constant magnetic-like pull toward its twin, if within 5 miles. The sensation is instinctive, like a soft tug on the arm, intensifying as the wearer nears the other ring.

The rings want to be together, and this pull is always active — even if only one ring is worn.

Combat Effects (While Gauntlet is Active)

  • Critical Protection
    Critical hits
targeting the wearer’s arm or wielded weapon are reduced to normal hits while the gauntlet is active.
  • Enhanced Strikes
  • Unarmed strikes with the gauntlet deal 1d6 bludgeoning damage, or 1d8 if the wielder’s Strength is 18 or higher.

Linked Ring Effects (Requires Wearing Both Rings)

When the wearer is attuned to and wearing both rings, the following additional effects are unlocked:

  • Reinforced Bond
  • Unarmed damage increases to 1d8, regardless of Strength.
  • Gain a +1 bonus to grapple and shove checks.
  • The gauntlet becomes immune to disarm attempts when wielding a weapon.
  • All damage dealt with the gauntlet — whether via unarmed strikes or wielded weapons — is considered magical for the purposes of overcoming resistances and immunities.
