Radioactive Crag Fields

Once the site of catastrophic nuclear collapse and later magical upheaval, the Radioactive Crag Fields are a poisoned scar upon the face of Ashara. Meltdowns from multiple ancient nuclear reactors, followed by intense bombardment, transformed this land into a growing wound. Magic, once awakened, twisted the radiation into something semi-arcane and permanent.
The Crag Fields do not spread, but neither do they fade. They remain an ever-burning warning of the consequences of unchecked power — scientific and magical alike.
Dangers
- Toxic Environment: A fusion of radioactive and magical corruption saturates the region. Lingering here without protection causes fatal mutations or arcane sickness.
- Mutated Wildlife: Creatures within the fields are violently adapted to survive the corruption. Some are so deeply attuned that they cannot survive outside — others have learned to escape.
- Magical Instability: Spells can react unpredictably near certain fault-lines in the region, as raw arcane energy distorts the weave.
Access and Navigation
- Known safe routes exist but are tightly classified by militaries, elite scavenger guilds, and research enclaves.
- Crossing without protection is suicide. Even magical wards offer limited protection before breaking down under the dual pressure of radiation and wild magic.
Political Status
- The Crag Fields are officially neutral territory, claimed by no nation due to their instability.
- Mechanis, Oralthis, and Shinryu all monitor the region but do not engage directly.
- Auratharion the Radiant, one of the ancient dragons, watches the region closely and considers it a subject of concern.
Reputation
- Seen as a forbidden zone by commonfolk and a fascination for researchers, the Crag Fields are one of the most infamous regions in Ashara.
- Some believe there are hidden vaults or ancient facilities buried beneath the irradiated land.
- Others fear the land itself is evolving into something sentient — a theory not entirely disproven.
Location:
Western Ashara, forming a jagged and volatile border between Mechanis and Oralthis, with coastal access from Shinryu. The western edge of the Gold Tip Peaks brushes the field, and it lies partially within the observational domain of Auratharion the Radiant.
