Ancient Super Cities
"They were meant to last forever. And they did — just not for us."
Description
The Ancient Super Cities are legendary remnants of the Ancients’ highest achievements — titanic ocean-bound metropolises filled with technology far beyond current comprehension. Long thought to be myths or lost beneath the waves, they were only rediscovered in the last generation.
Location
- Scattered across deep ocean trenches, submerged volcanic calderas, and floating continental shelves.
- Most remain submerged or semi-submerged, with only occasional spires breaching the surface.
- Require magical or technological means to reach — traditional sailing vessels are often repelled.
Defenses
The surviving cities still exhibit advanced defensive systems, including:
- Illusion barriers that warp perception and hide their location.
- A subtle repulsion effect that pushes would-be explorers away.
- Anti-intrusion systems — some partially functioning — including automated drones, laser defenses, or sound-based deterrents.
- These defenses are now unreliable or degrading due to age and partial damage from long exposure.
Infrastructure
- The cities were designed as utopian living networks, integrating natural energy sources, vertical arcologies, and clean automation.
- Despite their age, many systems still function: lights flicker on, elevators hum, drones drift silently.
- Power sources remain unknown, likely tapping into deep geothermal or arcane cores.
Current Threat
Each of these cities is now a mass grave turned hive — millions of Necrotics roam their streets, the victims of the initial outbreak and subsequent mass casualties during the fall.
- Some Necrotics remain inert in sealed zones — others roam in endless patrols, responding to noise, light, or proximity.
- These cities are considered unrecoverable by most factions, but remain tempting targets for scavengers, scholars, and mad inventors.
Defences
- Too advanced to be understood
- For the ones that remain at sea, they seem to have a kind of illusion barrier and a subtle repulsion effect, though it is now ineffective after being found
Infrastructure
- These were incredibly advanced technological wonders, beautiful supercities.
- Even after a thousand years, they are still mostly functioning
