Elves

generally, are characterized by their pointed ears and their uncanny similarities to the human species, while being noticeably different in ways that you can't seem to put your finger on, no matter how long you look. They are often viewed as higher beings in comparison to Humans , leading to a great deal of envy from the non-magical 'hairless apes,' as some fed-up elfin scholars have described; there's a certain air of arrogance attributed to some elves who have taken their inherent characteristics of enhanced longevity, dexterity, intelligence, beauty, and magic to mean that they are superior, but most of elfin society, especially the elders, have rejected this idea, thinking it to be ridiculous to put one species over another because of 'minute differences.' Elves, while socially being closer to Nymphs and other natural entities, still share similarities with their fae cousins, including the common characteristic of charmspeak - a type of inherited magic that manipulates the mind. Many Enchanters choose to work with elves in order to strengthen their own charmspeak, though most elves themselves only use these abilities sparingly, some still fearing persecution due to generational trauma from before the divide of Asendra. In comparison to fairies, they are generally more benevolent but make no mistake, or you'll find yourself on the other end of an enchanted arrow. You'll find many elves in the Ironbrook settlement of Elylrius
