Azde the Conqueror

His Imperial Majesty

Azde the Conqueror was the first Emperor Azde.   Azde's Talent was the most powerful Talent of Words in recorded history. He had the power of perfect persuasion, being able to completely manipulate the thoughts and emotions of all but a few. Using this Talent, Azde was able to conquer and unify nearly half the continent of Dorlon, founding the Exalted Empire of Azde   He had six children. The eldest, his son Zérim, would succeed him to become the second Emperor Azde. His remaining children all became founding heads of their respective Imperial House.

Birth and Early Life

The exact circumstances of his birth, such as his birth name and Stellar Coincidence, are a closely guarded imperial secret. However, it is known that all Emperors Azde are born on Azde on the Sea an isolated island in the northern part of the Ventic Ocean, during the month of Mesmez, to take advantage of the star Mesmez-132 at the zenith. His birthday is traditionally celebrated on 16 Mesmez.   Azde was born to Édes Neser and Arde Hakeser, a seafaring merchant couple from the city of Dekken in what was then the Merchant Nation of Ser. According to the imperial record, Arde and the heavily-pregnant Édes were returning back home from a successful mercantile expedition when their ship was caught in a freak weather phenomenon. Forced to divert their course, they spotted a then-uncharted island where they docked to shelter from the storm. It was then that Édes gave birth to a son, a few weeks premature. Nearly two months later, Édes, Arde, and their infant son returned to Dekken.   The child Azde grew up comfortably. His parents were successful in their business selling exotic wares from across the ocean. As a boy, Azde's Talent began to surface as he soon attracted a following. He had a large group of friends his own age, but soon it became apparent even adults were at his beck and call. At the age of 12, the child declared that he be called Azde, a name from ancient Ser legend that meant "exalted one". By the age of 13, nearly the entire city of Dekken was under Azde's control. Under his orders, the people of Dekken saw to Azde's every whim: gold, jewels, weapons, lavish food, entertainment, and eventually, total control of the city.   It is unknown whether Édes and Arde were affected by Azde's Talent, or whether they feared him or accepted his grand ambitions, but historians state that Azde was known to dote on his parents; years later, he would even name his newly built imperial capital after them.

Rise to power

Having control over Dekken was not enough for the young Azde. His ambition to rule over the world began to form at the age of 15, after using his Talent to launch a coup d'état against the ruling family of the nation of Ser. He installed himself as Lord of Ser on 3 Semla, 554 EN. This began to draw the attention and ire of neighboring states, particularly because of the coup's disruption of local trade routes. Soon after Azde's enthronement, the Kingdom of West Sheya and Grand Duchy of Hodaz formed an alliance and declared war. However, even if their armies far outnumbered the Seran forces, Azde strategically infiltrated the invading forces and targeted officials with his Talent. In the confusion, the generals of the two nations were soon turned on each other, which led to the capitulation of the Sheyan King and the Hodazan Grand Duke. West Sheya and Hodaz were formally absorbed into Ser on 8 Saken.   Within the next year, more neighboring rulers fell under the hands of Azde. To the south, the United Duchies of the Ords fell on 20 Dafre, followed soon by the Kalaser Nation on 24 Poneka. A campaign extending into the Cruth peninsula in 555 EN led to the annexation of the Confederation of Malord and the Kingdom of Ga'i'ser on 10 Gelam and 2 Kirali, respectively.   By his 17th birthday, Azde had immense wealth and power across the continent, but his conquests had just begun.

Foundation of an Empire

With his occupied lands covering the entire southwestern coast of Dorlon, Azde declared himself Emperor, founding the Exalted Empire of Azde during the Autumn Equinox of 556 EN.   Later that year, Azde established an alliance with the Kingdom of Samams to invade the East Sheya Republic, which fell on 21 Zeler. During his visit to Samams for his negotiations with Faras Phom, King of the Samams, he met and fell in love with the princess Miras Phom. A grand Imperial Wedding was held in the palace of Dekken on the Summer Solstice of 557 EN.    In order to continue the legacy of the Empire and his Talent of Words, Azde and Miras secretly enlisted astrometrists to calculate his Stellar Coincidence in order that his firstborn would acquire the same Talent. Following the calculations, the Emperor and Empress timed their conception and pregnancy. Then, on the Summer Solstice of 558 EN, the Emperor and Empress embarked on a journey by sea to an island in the middle of the Ventic Ocean: Azde-by-the-Sea, where he was born eighteen years prior. There, their son Zérim Azde was born in the month of Mesmez. The Imperial family returned to Dorlon a few weeks later to fanfare and celebration.   A carefully planned lineage and empire in mind, the Emperor and Empress continued to arrange their family according to astrometry. His second child, Mézar Azde, was born with the Talent of Wisdom on 1 Parana, 560 EN. His third, Zarosh Azde, was born with the Talent of War on 15 Gelam, 561 EN.

Continued Conquest

In the months after Azde's return, the conquest of the continent continued in earnest. By 562, the Empire stretched from the Eltic Sea in the north, to the Strait of Masigir in the south; the Minona Range in the west, and the hills on the edge of the Xutara Desert in the east.
