Royal Academy of Coul
The Royal Academy of Coul is the most prestigious place of learning in Coul.
Purpose / Function
The Royal Academy of Coul was originally built to educate those of the royal family, and perhaps their closest friends. Over time, however, the Royal Academy began allowing all students to enroll - provided the can pay the hefty tuition fee, of course.
The Royal Academy teaches all kinds of subjects, from swordfighting to diplomacy to ancient Shoas Pranan heritage. Many instructors and professors from all over Quarasia come to teach their field of expertise to aspiring students, though of course those that teach more... exotic disciplines may find themselves without any students to teach.
Architecture
The Royal Academy is mainly comprised of stone bricks, extracted from a nearby quarry. The stonework is covered in intricate engravings, many detailing historical events and depicting teachings of famous philosophers and professors.
The entrance way is dominated by a large pavilion, in the center of which lies a large statue of a scroll, dedicated to nought but knowledge and learning. Inside, the building is subdivided into many lecture halls, libraries, dormitories, training grounds, and hallways. Each aspect of the building optimizes practicality and beauty, forming an excellent place to learn.
History
Construction of the Royal Academy began in 1076 by the Second Queen of Coul, and was finished in 1098 by the Third King. Several important figures were educated there, most notably including the Fourth King, and the Fifth Queen. General Baumgartner was one such figure, and also returned later to teach as a combat instructor.
The Royal Academy is headed by a President, who is in charge of high-level management as well as directing the Council of Professors. There have been four presidents throughout the history of the academy:
