K'Tharkian

The squid-like natives of The Lost City of K'thark are a mysterious race, not very well known or documented by humankind. While humanoid in structure, their faces tend to be in the shape of various squid and octopi. Their three-fingered 'hands' are two specialised tentacles that, when above the surface of the Ocean Below, they use to mimic arms. While the exact shape and colouration varies, all K'Tharkians have long suckered tendrils protuding from their faces.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The anatomy of a K'Tharkian is debatable. Numerous autopsies have uncovered that organ location is entirely up to the whim of the K'Tharkian individually, as well as the fact that K'Tharkians have a total of zero bones in their body.

Biological Traits

A K'Tharkian stands at roughly six to eight foot when stood in a humanoid pose; they are capable of using their two specialised tentacles as arms, the three 'fingers' functioning as hands, and the rest of the tentacles wrapped together to form a mimicry of functioning legs. Their faces are entirely inhuman, often reminiscent of an entire squid shoved atop sloping slimy shoulders. K'Tharkians have four eyes, two on either side. When in water, a K'Tharkian tends to shed clothes and take on a much more naturally squid-like shape. Their movement speed under the surface can often outpace war-ships.

Genetics and Reproduction

K'Tharkians are known to lay eggs in heavily protected coral reefs known as Hatcheries. The location of these Hatcheries changes each year, and can sometimes provide problematic when laid in the middle of a fishing route.

Social Structure

Typically, a K'Tharkian never leaves his School. These are tight-knit family units that often go back generations, passing knowledge forward and ensuring various traditions are kept.

Average Intelligence

K'Tharkians are known to be above the average intelligence of humanity, and perhaps any other creature within the Sunken Cities. Most of their knowledge however, is kept secret and sacred. Propaganda and war has cast most K'Tharkians as fanatic cultists rather than vastly intellectual and arcane-attuned beings.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

K'Tharkian literature and art has alluded towards the use of colours that are not visible to the human eye. The extrasensory ability extends further to the point where K'Tharkians are capable of sensing arcane energy within an enclosed space; this is rumoured to be due to extremely sensitive and reactive mucus layering the tentacles of their faces.

Civilization and Culture

Common Dress Code

A K'Tharkian will wear loose fitting clothing when on land, but rarely is a K'Tharkian clothed underwater.

History

Very little is known about the history of K'Tharkians. It is known that they were at war with The Hives for over two hundred years before humanity found it's way to the Ocean Below. During the Unspoken War, all literature and information regarding the true nature and history of the race was either burnt or rewritten.

Reportly 150 - 200 years.

Conservation Status

After the Unspoken War, the exact population of K'Tharkians is unknown. It's reported to have at least halved, but records are seldom kept or accurate.
