The Hives

Unexplored by man, the Hives exist beyond the fungal forest that grows on the other side of the Carcernatorum island, connected only by a few bridges that are heavily guarded by both sides.        The Hives are the home to a variety of insectoid and sentient races; lead by Her Radiance, the broad subspecies are all under the thrall of the Queen Mother. Her appearance is unknown to humanity, though her beauty is often described by her Drones as 'ethereal' and 'everlasting'.        While initially the Hive had no interest in humanity beyond occasional feed when moss got boring, BreachKing Roe introduced a treaty that caused the two to work more closely together. The Hive gave over the secrets to cultivating various types of moss to assist in survival, and those that could pass as humanoid enough began to integrate within the Carcernatorum; mostly serving the Wardens in various degrees. It's not known what the Hive received on their side of the treaty, but it seems to be enough to hold peace for now.         Openly at war with the sea-faring squid-like species of K'thark, it's only in the last few years  that K'tharkians have been allowed upon Carcernatorum grounds in order to debate a shaky peace deal. With humanity acting as an ignorant middleman, the Hive plans to use the treaty as an opportunity. This debate has continued on for over a year, with the Queens Drones arguing heavily against K'Tharkian inclusion in society.      Asides from their hatred for species other than them, the Hive makes its wants and needs private. The Queen feasts and spawns more of the Colony; the Drones patrol the streets, assisting the Watch but keeping an eye of their own on humanity as a whole. It's rumoured that some of the smallest insects found in boots or the corners of rooms might be agents of the Queen, though the Hive Ambassador regularly assures the council of The Carcernatorum that there is no evidence of this being true.

Government

The Hive Queen controls all members of the Hive through a mixture of connected consciousness and mind-warping honey; the consumption of which will strengthen her bond to the host. As such, any Drone has the ability to weild authority should the Queen choose to act through them; the Drone will be compelled to consume vast amounts of honey until its' carapace bursts. The Queen will then be able to control the empty husk that remains. Once she moves her thoughts elsewhere, the remains of the Drone can remain functioning for several weeks before ultimately succumbing to its wounds.

Defences

Sentinels are centipedes roughly the size of hundred ships set length-wise; while sentient, their size and disinterest in anything other than consuming trespassers has made entering the Hives an impossible feat. The wilderness of the fungal forests between the Hives and the Carcernatorum is also full of a broad variety of dangers.

Infrastructure

The Hives are built as extremely large and tall mounds, with a variety of holes and outcrops. Within are a series of tunnels and chambers that serve a broad variety of functions; these tunnels go deep into the island, with the Hive Queen residing within the largest chamber at the very bottom.

Architecture

Huge heaping mounds of dirt and clay and stone, holes carved into the sides large enough for several men to get through. Each storey contains a chamber, each chamber is connected to a series of complex tunnels on the inside of each mound that leads to others. Most Hives exist as Worker Drone housing, others as Nurseries and more for cultivating moss fertiliser & meat produce. These structures are not known well to humanity, though the Drones that have disclosed information have explained sciences beyond local Scholars understanding.
