The Arena

The Arena is the largest building in Bulgaria and is a signature for the city of Rockdoors.

While sports are played in it - both home games and accepting guest teams from other countries/towns or worlds - the reason why the people of Rockdoors love it is that in the case of emergency there is a place for each and every citizen to hide inside. This possibility has been achieved with long years of teamwork between 50+ magic users and over 300 other kinds of workers. The result is an effectively self-filling overlayering system of mini-apartments for families and small groups, each apartment outfitted with air-purifying vents that in some way get to the surface; bathroom with running water and small kitchen space with an enchanted fridge which provides unlimited food (but of limited variation). All those apartments can adaptively change number according to the actual number of people living in the city in the moment of the event - it will add to the construction or drop a spot and rearrange the places inside but eventually each and everyone can fit in, encapsulated and safe under a dome that closes all around the Arena and two barriers of magical energy that protect it.
Hopefully it never happens but the building has been designed to maintain people inside it even if the entire planet explodes and there is no physical land to hold the building - the devices that maintain the portals between the worlds of Terra, Forice and a few more worlds are crossed over inside the Arena walls hence all the magic of the barriers and the portals combined - can hold the entire thing aloft for undetermined amount of time. There is also a way to move people to the other worlds through the portal side inside the walls but this is an absolute last-resort thing to be done.

Purpose / Function

In the beginning, The Arena started as just that - a big space where sports were to happen and big events to be held. Later, when the middle of its building period closed in - around May 1575 - A big earthquake forced the people of neighbourhoods around to rush towards the Arena's building and hide in the sides of the construction. Upon seeing that the mayor at this moment figured out that there could be a better solution for exactly that kind of events.
Between 1575 and 1590 The Arena was already becoming the massive construction it is today and was nowhere near finished as the plan with the repurposing demanded magical expansions and difficult over-layering of the internal structure. The entirety of the Arena was finally finished in 1698 after even more magical additions, editions and remaking of the blueprints

Tourism

The Arena draws in plenty of tourists who visit Rockdoors who want to try and get in and see as much of it as possible during their stay.
Being a humongous ellipse that spans over pretty much the entire shoreline of Bulgaria within the city limits, the Arena has  an entrance in each of the five sub regions, every one of  which is unique by design and surroundings. For example the South-Central entrance to the Arena is surrounded by a square where the Harvest market takes place but also where one can buy circus tickets in advance so there's a ticket & souvenir selling cart of Circus Tennebralux that hides among the blossoming trees and the "Farm Animals" fountain. The Central entrance has a huge performance stage in front of it and a walking path going almost in a straight line to the beach and the North entrance is hugged by a mall, movie theatre and a giant video wall flashing news, weather forecast and any eventual possible warnings every hour and shows art by local artists on a slideshow in the meantime.

Going inside the Arena is possible only on arranged tours which happen once every two weeks and show all the sleeping apartments, equipment for times of crisis as well as actual sports gear for the sports that actually do get played on the terrain.

That's such a good idea to have in times of crisis. I like that it will help even if the whole planet explodes.
