Against the monsters & the Dark

Like any child, Terran kids are afraid of monsters under their beds. Adults are afraid of monsters under their beds. And while world-wide peace among any and all species is what is promoted and practiced almost everywhere there are still individuals who are up to break the laws, hunt for prey the animalistic ways and be their spooky urban legend selves. Those are the ones parents warn against. Those are the ones they do small rituals to keep away from their children.

Using objects

A lot of parents like using negative energies- warding gemstones, animals or other symbolic objects and place them near the child's bed. For example a bear made of jasper or garnet placed on the nightstand can keep away wendigos, skinwalkers, goatmen and some types of ghosts. For protection against boogeyman, vampires, werewolves and most ghosts the parents would use a small silver ball and place it under the bed. They'd tell the kid:

"While this is here it will fill all the space under your bed with good vibes. And then there's no place for anything else!"

Rituals

For both young and old there's some traditions that actually work to bring them good luck for a certain day or in certain situation. 

- The most common and most often working one is to get a raven's feather, dip it in pure black coffee and make a vertical line towards the tip of your nose with it first thing in the morning. This is done to ensure all negative energies stay away from you for the day.
- Another one is to put a very strong mint in your mouth as you're going to bed. You can suck it & crunch it but you shouldn't have all of it gone by the time you actually fall asleep - this will make certain the next day something good happens to you.
- The third most commonly done - and actually working - one is to eat ice cream before sunrise but obligatory while you're wearing a red piece of clothing - guarantees you a kiss from a crush or loved one that same day.
