Artimesian

Written by PeachJuice

Artimesians are an alien species that reside on the planet artimesia. The defining traits of artimesians are humanoid shape reminiscent of harpies of yore, tails from the backside, digitigrade legs, talons, pointy ears, slitted eyes, and a non-biological system. The secret behind artimesian bodies is that they are more like a shell compared to other species. The main feature of their existence is the Core. the Core functions like a mix between the heart and the brain, a generator of energy that replenishes itself through the various things artimesians eat.

While being of the same species they are rather diverse in both ability and design. This is the result of the secret talent of artimesians. With their bodies being non-biological they are more malleable and can when injured can grow back in many different ways. resulting in the diversity of both lithe and quick to stocky and strong body types and features. While changing the form of their bodies comes more easily to them than other species they need to consume more food in order to properly construct such changes and can sometimes react negatively to them. The core is extremely sturdy and can withstand many environments and settings, yet, can be shattered under normal means of pressure such as the force of some strikes from a hammer. the body can be torn to shreds but if the 'Core' itself is not shattered they are still alive and can reform their body when the necessary materials are available.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The skeletal structure of the artimesian is made out of a micro-lattice of various mineral deposits, sturdy and very lightweight but breaks under a firm and sudden pressure. ranging in more durability to common bones but weaker than most metals. teeth are made out of stone that they form, they have seven different variants: sapphire, corundum, topaz, granite, chrysoberyl, feldspar, and the most common- diorite. Wing bones have more of a porous structure for use of quicker movement in the air with the reduced weight. They have lean muscle structure and thicker and bulkier forms often end up in landlocking an artimesian due to the extra weight, fitness is as common as eating due to this. Wings protrude from the upper middle of the back and connect to the front of the body like a second pair of pecs under the first set, though it is more smooth in appearance due to the existence of the keel. They have shorter ribs due to not having lungs and have a small keel bone that protrudes from the extra space to aid in the wing movement. They have a digitigrade structure to their legs, including a digit in the back of the foot for griping. They have a tail that protrudes from the backside and feathers that spread from the wings along the back, the sides, pelvis, the nape of the neck and the topside of the tail. Internally they have two stomachs, one function as a gizzard and the other as a means of liquidizing food that is then diffused into the bloodstream to be deposited in pockets among their form. Due to using all parts of their food, they have no waste system.

Genetics and Reproduction

Artimesians have no defined gender binary due to being hermaphrodites, they lay small clutches of eggs commonly ranging from 3-6 in number. a single clutch of eggs can have multiple parent genes alongside the carrier, and a single egg ranges in size from a lemon to the size of a peach. They have a prehensile penis that remains sheathed and as small ridges along its form. The vagina is located underneath the sheath and ranges four to five inches deep but is very stretchy and can handle larger sizes. Past this is the uterus which is accompanied by two roe pockets on both sides which will release a few eggs during estrus. Multiple deposits can occur leading into clutches up to 13 (20 for those of oean heritage). Unfertilized eggs remain gel-like and are often reabsorbed into the body when fertilized they will remain gel-like until they reach proper size and will form a shell.

Growth Rate & Stages

Artimesians will start out as small quadrupedal creatures with long ears and tails covered in fur. they graduate into being covered with a thin layer of downy and becoming bipedal. upon reaching pre pubescent years all remaining downy will be shed and will be replaced with feathers and the wings will start to form by the start to mid of adolescence. When the wings are finished growing they will begin to break through the skin of the back and will fully emerge with the beginning stages of the primaries. by later teen years wings are fully feathered and muscles are properly formed and will begin to properly develop with the introduction of long term flight. adulthood is classified at age 20+.

Ecology and Habitats

Artimesians are naturally adaptable and can live in many types of environments. optimal comfortable environments are aerial cliffs with a surplus of vegetation. artimesians tend to positively feed the environment with the constant emissions of generated energy expelled by them, some will actively cultivate such responses to build a space that fits their aesthetics.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Artimesians are able to digest a wide variety of foods, if it can be broken down it can be eaten no matter the toxicity. their diet is composed of many proteins and minerals that go into the renewal of feathers and body oils and protection. artimesians can survive off of one large meal for three weeks at a time before they must eat again.they will be very defensive of food stores during droughts or famine but will share during times of plenty.

Biological Cycle

Artimesians will molt their feathers once every four months but drop feathers constantly, therefore, they preen often. depending on the environment some will grow extra feathers to adapt to certain cold temperatures. every three months an artimesian will undergo a process that expels toxins and energy remnants from the body with a duration of 3-7 days, symptoms experienced can include mood swings, heightened environmental sensitivity, touch sensitivity, overheating, and irritability. every five months they will expel old body parts so they can be regrown in a process that takes 3-5 days. Estrus occurs every 3-5 months.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

lost and stranded artimesians are often snapped up by the interstellar black market. their bodies have many uses which they exploit to a sad amount. teeth and claws are harvested. muscle is stripped to be eaten, feathers are collected and their skin and bone are sold as building material. with their ability to reform their bodies they are often stuck in a cycle of being stripped of their bodies before why break under the stress and die. in some places they are used as exotic pets or hunting animals and their wings are often sold as decoration along with discarded cores.

Facial characteristics

Artimesian eyes have a tapetum lucidum, a nictitating membrane, and slit pupils. some will have feathers growing along their jawline.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Artimesians are polymorphic and mainly tripedal and have learned to manipulate the energy from both the planet and the excess energy produced by their bodies to change either themselves or the environment. abilities vary per person and new abilities can be learned. physical features vary as well due to the species polymorphic nature.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Artimesians have two first names, their common or 'Public" name and their Parent name. common names are simply a chosen name by the individual that they call themselves, this is used in every public scenario. Parent names are the names given by the parent that is a combination of coloration and first sound, these are used in intimate scenarios between married mates or with close family. and example of these would be Sasha 'Ruschir' Sparks.

Major Organizations

the kingdoms that exist in Artimesia are Solis, Oceanum, Caelum, Mons, Aestus, and Stellae.

Courtship Ideals

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

group parenting is commonly observed and many can be found in pack groups as adults with group nesting. music and art festivals are held many times a year. The cutting of hair is symbolic in the artimesian culture as a way of cutting ties, this applies to ties of peace or ties of anger; cutting one's hair and giving it to another person is viewed as a declaration of war, as well as one war leader cutting their hair and sending it across is a sign of peace, cutting one’s hair and keeping it is a sign of moving on. They are peaceful to other races but have internalized their predatory instincts which leads them to be very harsh to each other. Duels, infighting, and cannibalism are common amongst artimesian groups. However, they commonly do not enact such violence on children.

Common Taboos

Due to this, there is a stigma that those that have black and dark colored wings and feathers are omens of death and misfortune and they are often discriminated against.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

  • as a diplomatic race, they view most cultures with respect and kindness, they often travel to other planets to discuss alliances and trade and have many small colonies amongst the stars.
  • Artimesians have twitchy ears that reflect their emotions. They have a hard time reading humans and other creatures because their ears don’t move—and really, that’s like talking to someone who seems to not have obvious body language. diplomats are trained to look past this but those from the homeworld often have a hard time with this.
