Valerian is slim and agile. He has often been healthy, some wounds he has endured have healed faster than would be expected, which has been noted by many, though he is probably just lucky.

Personal history

Valerian Thorne was born in Edgewood in 2E 1473. He spent much of his childhood with his parents or his friend Eira, as he wasn't too popular. At the age of 8, shortly after his mother's death, he was sent to live with his maternal uncle in Sil-Afan, so that he may receive a high quality education and make something of himself, as per his late mother's wishes. 
His time in Sil-Afan was very strange. Living in a land that could not be more different to his countryside upbringing, he thrived in the holy city. He received education in maths and medicine, and was a very promising student. When Val was 11 years old, the Magos Aquos in Sil-Afan was destroyed, throwing the city into chaos. As the threat of war and famine loomed, he fled with his uncle and many of the townsfolk. 6 months later he was returned to his father in Edgewood, after an ordeal that even the hardiest of men would struggle with. 
Once back in Edgewood, his father decided that it would be best if Val followed him in his trade. His uncle had left to attempt to rebuild his fortune, and his father had no desire to let him leave with him, after the last time. Val lived in comfort back in Edgewood. It wasn't the great city that Sil-Afan was, but it was home. He spent much of his time with his father, learning bowyery in his workshop, or out in the Blackwood, learning which trees are useful for various purposes. When he was not with his father, he was often with Eira again, having rekindled their friendship. They spent much of their time outside the town, gathering herbs and other alchemical ingredients for her mother, who was the local apothecary.
The next 10 years of Val's life was very much the same. Aside from his friend Eira, he was a social outcast, now even more than before as he spent several years in a foreign land. He enjoyed working with his father, though he lacked the strength to draw many of the more powerful bows that were commissioned by the rangers, which disappointed his father. That aside, his ability to craft bows was nothing to be ashamed of, it was a skill he was certainly adept at, though he enjoyed working with Eira's family learning salves and medicines, which he could use alongside his slim knowledge of wound treatment to help out at home whenever someone picked up an injury.

Mental Trauma

Between the ages of 7 and 12, Valerian's life was rather tumultuous. The death of his mother, and then being sent away to Sil-Afan to study with his uncle was difficult for such a young boy. Though he thrived in Sil-Afan, witnessing its fall first hand, and travelling back home for 6 months with his uncle as a penniless refugee certainly left its mark. Upon his return to Edgewood, he struggled to make friends, or talk to others his age, which set him back quite a bit. Over time he grew to be able to once more, but the scars are still there.
The incident at Sil-Afan led to distrust of many Phicians, which from the perspective of many people in Erenia, just added to an existing prejudice. There were very few foreign visitors in Edgewood, which made it difficult to shake the stigma.
