Shinkai (Water Demons)

...We call them Water Demons thanks to how most encounters have happened. For the longest time no one even knew they existed but a few centuries ago they began raiding mortal ships and killing entire crews showing no mercy killing innocents and even children. That however is not the whole story, I had managed to meet and talk with Shinkai living OUTSIDE the ocean and these Zionist Shinkai were willing to talk to me. In truth those actions, at least the most vile ones, were done by the Water Demon's governing body and military including black ops units. Truth be told things haven't been well for the Water Demons ever since their current Empress was crowned. Their empress is oppressive, makes unreasonable demands of her people and wants the rule the surface and has declared war against the mortal races. Most water demons don't agree with this policy as most of them were quite happy to stay in the depths of the oceans and leave the mortals alone so the empresses current polices along with her treatment of her own kind has called small rebellions to happened which the empress has crushed. More and more Water Demons have been fleeing the depths towards the surface to find another way of life. Tensions amongst the water demons have still been growing. It's only a mater of time before the Empire of the Depths finds itself in an all out civil war. While we mortals call them Water Demons they call themselves the Shinkai. Outside of their Leader all were equals and had to work for their jobs and could be anything they wanted. Nobles weren't a class so much as a kind of profession to them till their current Empress came about who passed laws to get a bunch of people she wanted to hold all offices. The ones that support the empress are now known as the The Puppet Council.

Basic Information
Anatomy
Pale skinned human for the most part in appearance with other 'growths' on them which varies from shinkai to shinkai. Some for example have black horns or tails. some of the growths seem bony others look more mechanical.
Ecology and Habitats
Most comfortable in Salt water.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Mostly have the same needs as humans and other mortal races though they need to take in so much Salt water instead of fresh water when above land.

Equal in standing save for the elected empress who is at the top.

Found in various oceans in the mortal realm despite originally coming from the water plane.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Senses work underwater as well as a humans does on land and only somewhat worse on land though sometimes one of their senses is magical in nature. Those with magical sense tend to cover the sense organ that is related to it.
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
Have a Symbiotic relationship with some of the deep sea creatures that can double as range and melee weapons for the Shinkai. In exchange the 'weapons' get a place to sleep and easier food.

History
Originally from the Water plane they moved to the material plane of Artainia far before the fall of the Crystal Empire.
