Orichalcum
From the heavens to the stone, the reflectless power is within grasp.
Weapons, ammunition, armor, and other equipment made out of orichalcum can sense evil presences, glowing a deep black red light in the presence of outsiders with the evil subtype, evil-aligned dragons, or undead creatures, and also glow with a red hum when in bright light. This light sheds dim light in a 10-foot radius.
Weapons Weapons and ammunition made from orichalcum deal half their damage as dark damage instead of their original damage type and deals an extra 1d10 points of electricity damage on a successful critical hit and is capable of lighting flammable objects on fire. As a swift action, the wielder may spend a soul point or a mythic point to empower the orichalcum, drawing out the zhakhan lightning within the metal for a minute per enhancement level on the weapon or ammunition. All creatures hurt by the weapon act as if they have been afflicted by zhakhan lightning.
Armor Armor made from orichalcum grants a +1 sacred bonus to saving throws against divine spells if it's light armor, grants a +2 sacred bonus to saving throws against divine spells if it's medium armor, and grants a +3 sacred bonus to saving throws against divine spells if it's heavy armor.
Properties
Material Characteristics
A dense, and barely translucent metal with a dark turquiose colouring, the unique sheen of orichalcum allows it to stand out, though it is at times confused with galatite, a similar, more blueish metal.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Orichalcum's first immediate property is it's glowing hue it gains in the presence of evil. This iconic red glow is the easiest way to know if something is orichalcum, as it's other properties are less noticable until put to the test. Orichalcum possesses a natural resistance against divine powers due to the zhakhan lightning contained within any vein of orichalcum.
Origin & Source
As the origin of zhakhan lightning itself is but legends, the power contained within orichalcum is equally unexplained. Orichalcum was first found in the red sands where bones that reflected no light were slowly gathering until proper researchers and explorers managed to identify the cause and find the previously fictional metal.
History & Usage
History
Viewed by many to be the blood of otherworldly gods and other absurd possibilities. Orichalcum has many tales, such as discoverers going mad with greed killing all within hundreds of miles of the vein to keep it hidden and then violently rending their own body asunder. It is said that gazing upon even a single orichalcum idol would erase its creators from existence.
Orichalcum's history, is a history of endless death for even a crumb. The ability to rival gods, to wipe rival kingdoms from memory, to kill a cursed family history. The veins of mortals have boiled and erupted from one's body over the sheer fathoming of this metal's chance of being in their hands. These are the tales of Orichalcum, a history of fear and chaos.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Due to the sheer rarity of the material, it is considered more a luxury collectible rather then an actual usable metal to be forged with. Treated more similar to a gemstone and locations holding it often have such information surpressed so that it'll never be found. Even if the people who mined it must be sealed away, no amount of lives is too much to maintain a grip on even a single deposit.
