Lamia (lä-ˈmē-ä)
The serpent's fangs have long seen lost use, instead a different, unwanted venom seeps from their tongue.
The serpentine lamia were originally isolated and distrusting covens, often secretive and wishing to stay hidden. In surprise and in great stride the lamia have long since found an accepted place in the world, their original tyrant god long since dead.
Physical Description: The appearance of a lamia is often unmistakable the appearance of a humanoid upper body just ever so slightly with scales on their back and arms, and the long, powerful lower half of an entire massive snake. Varied in pattern and colours of their reptilian scales, they often come in astonishing colourations based on heritage with their humanoid upper half's skin usually depending on their lower half's colouration for their more, subdued, duller skin colour. Their hair is often very silky and straight, but comes in a notable amount of colours, including more mundane ones such as brown or blonde, but also more uncommon ones such as green. Their eyes are similar to most reptilian races, having slit pupils, but are less restricted in possible colours, capable of being even purple or pearl. Due to being a primarily matriarchal race, female lamia often outsize the male lamia in most scenarios.
Lamia bear some surprising difference between each other, often based on their ancestor's original coven, such as dislocatable jaws, larger fangs, or unnatural growth, though this is often vestigial.

Society: Lamia culture has long since undergone a time of change, having evolved into a preference for storing and learning knowledge to help teach newer generations. These protectors are often lead by a matriarch who, while capable of overpowering others, have long since become a advisory role within the former closed covens of lamia villages. Despite this, they still often enjoy priority in most situations alongside village priests thanks to long standing traditions.
Relations: Due to a common lack of travelers and knowledge seekers with villages, most lamia covens often choose to instead integrate into larger mixed cities to provide acquired books and teachings to a larger audience and as repayment to the final brigandine pact. With the death of their knowledge devouring god at the hands of the strongest king, lamia share a kinship with elves and are often patient and understanding of treeguard behavior.
Beliefs and Religion: Lamia often worship a wide variety of gods since entering into the brigandine pact, with some bias towards reptilian gods and gods of knowledge or truth. Lamia prefer quiet commune and usually pray in silence, though do prefer being in places of faith when doing so, often with others due to old practices this gives them a greater sense of relief.
Adventurers: While lamia are commonly reclusive, they can still be found in adventuring parties in a wide variety of roles, while civilian lamia often end up in more judicial jobs, those who are within a party of adventurers have a wide variety of skills they can provide with no particular bias or focus.
