Crystal Flame

For when stone is in meagre amounts, the realm shall make do.

Crystallized flame is a magical mineral commonly found in pyrim, but can also be found within locations of malbaar where the connection to the plane of fire is strong and the veil is thin.   Crystal Flame's magical nature allows it to be incredibly useful against those who fight with ice and cold, but also can be of great danger to it's own wielder. Weapons, ammunition, armor, and other equipment fashioned from crystal flame take half damage from cold damage due to its own intense heat.   Weapons Weapons and ammunition fashioned from crystal flame deal half their damage as fire damage instead of their original damage type and is capable of lighting flammable objects and creatures hurt by the weapon on fire. Creatures and objects that are dealt damage by equipment made of crystal flame must roll a DC 15 Reflex save to avoid being lit on fire by the sparks that fly off the weapon on contact. Creatures or objects that fail this save take 1d4 fire damage on subsequent turns, but can as a standard action, attempt to extinguish the flames by rolling a DC 15 reflex save.   Armor  Armor made from crystal flame grants its wearer cold resistance and deals fire damage to it's user and adjacent creatures and objects each turn depending on the type of armor, granting 5 cold resistance and dealing 1d4 fire damage if it’s light armor, 10 cold resistance and dealing 1d6 fire damage if it’s medium armor, and 15 cold resistance and deal 1d8 fire damage if it’s heavy armor. Crystal Flame is difficult to craft with due to not melting under heat and instead requires a steady, delicate, and cautious hand to make the necessary cuts to the gemstone. It is due to this that the DC to create a masterwork piece of crystal flame equipment is increased by 10.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Sharing many physical characteristics with glass, crystal flame is capable of being in many complex natural formations reminiscent of normal flame, crystal flame often shares its colours with flame, a mix of red, orange, and yellow, all often transparent. This results in many natural formations of crystal flame to often be considered awe-inspiring.   Natural formations are usually not particularly sharp unless they have been broken or carved, though carved crystal flame can easily keep a sharpened blade.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Crystal Flame is nonflammable and does not melt under any temperatures due to its magical nature. It naturally possesses an incredibly high temperature that burns anything it touches and within close viscinity. Inexplicably it acts exactly as if it is fire despite being a solid crystal, resulting in it being incredibly dangerous to work with or use.

Geology & Geography

Primarily found in pyrim as a substitute for any physical material due to a lack of proper stone and metals throughout most the realm. Forming the majority of structures and landmasses in the realm, whether constructed or naturally occurring. Crystal Flame is also found in locations in which the barrier between pyrim and malbaar are thin, such as particularly powerful volcanos or other magmatic locations underground.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Due to the material's main uses commonly being fulfilled by mundane items such as torches or other tools, the demand for crystal flame is not particularly high. As such it is usually acquired as an exotic sundry for houses and not commonly used for adventuring equipment but it is still possible to find such equipment depending on the region.
