Purring Maggot
Urist likes purring maggots for their comforting whirs
Basic Information
Anatomy
A large insect larva with bone white skin.
Growth Rate & Stages
Purring maggots hatch from tiny pearl-like eggs laid on cavern roofs and drop to the floor after hatching, occasionally surviving the fall. Eventually when they grow large enough, their skins yellow and harden, and the larva transforms into a large black moth.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Purring maggots, when left to their own devices, prefer to feast on the overgrown fungal mats of damp cavern floors.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Purring maggots can secrete a sweet, protein rich substance similar to milk, which can be collected and fermented into a food similar to cheese.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
It is believed that purring maggots utilise a form of echolocation, as evidenced by the whirring purrs they make.
