General Summary
Why We're Here:
Illidan Stormrage has seized the Black Temple in Shadowmoon Valley as his seat of power. Once a sacred draenei temple, then an orcish stronghold, it now houses the Betrayer and his demon hunters, naga, and blood elf followers. Akama, the broken draenei leader forced to serve Illidan, has secretly contacted us. Maiev Shadowsong, who imprisoned Illidan 10,000 years ago, has also arrived seeking vengeance. Despite Illidan's claims of fighting the Burning Legion, his methods have become ruthless and his rule tyrannical. We must end his threat before he destabilizes Outland further.
Boss Overview:
High Warlord Naj'entus (Naga)
Illidan's naga lieutenant guarding the temple entrance. The naga followed Illidan from Azeroth and serve as his naval and magical forces. Naj'entus represents the first line of defense.
Supremus (Abyssal/Constructed Demon)
A massive constructed demon, essentially a living siege weapon. Shows Illidan's willingness to bind and weaponize demonic forces despite his supposed opposition to the Legion.
Shade of Akama
Illidan extracted part of Akama's soul to ensure his loyalty and bound it as a guardian. Defeating it frees Akama to openly join your assault, representing the broken draenei's liberation from servitude.
Teron Gorefiend (Death Knight)
The first death knight ever created, originally an orc warlock given undeath by Gul'dan. He serves Illidan and represents the dark legacy of the orcish Horde that once occupied this temple.
Gurtogg Bloodboil (Fel Orc)
Commander of Illidan's fel orc forces. These orcs were corrupted by Magtheridon's blood and now serve the Betrayer, showing Illidan's control over multiple armies in Outland.
Reliquary of Souls
A containment vessel holding captured essences (Suffering, Desire, Anger). Represents Illidan's experiments with soul magic and his willingness to imprison and torture for power.
Mother Shahraz (Shivarra)
A high-ranking demon serving Illidan directly. Her presence reveals that despite his anti-Legion rhetoric, Illidan commands actual Legion demons, blurring the line between enemy and tyrant.
Illidari Council (Blood Elf/Broken Leadership)
Four of Illidan's most trusted lieutenants: Lady Malande (priest), Veras Darkshadow (rogue), Gathios the Shatterer (paladin), and High Nethermancer Zerevor (mage). They represent the multi-racial nature of his army and his inner circle's fanatical loyalty.
Illidan Stormrage (The Betrayer)
The final confrontation. Once a night elf seeking power to protect his people, Illidan consumed the Skull of Gul'dan to gain demonic power, was imprisoned for 10,000 years, then freed to fight the Legion. Now he rules Outland with an iron fist, claiming everything he does serves a greater purpose against the Legion. His famous words "You are not prepared!" reflect his belief that only he understands what's necessary to defeat the true enemy. We must stop him before his obsession causes more destruction.
Connection to Wider Lore:
Illidan's defeat creates a power vacuum in Outland but doesn't end the Legion threat. Kael'thas Sunstrider, who betrayed Illidan to serve Kil'jaeden directly, continues his plans with the Sunwell, leading to the events of Magister's Terrace and Sunwell Plateau.
