The Catastrophe

The catastrophe is largely unknown by the major countries of Arret. It is known that a global-scale war broke out alongside several natural disasters that devastated the land. It took, proposed, between several centuries and several millennia for nature to recuperate to a level standard that is seen in the current day. What little is known about the catastrophe is that before the catastrophe there Arret was a single lunar system and the lunar body was somehow broken into two separate lunar bodies. The two lunar bodies are now what is seen in the sky and are thought to be pieces of the lunar body that reformed over time. It is unknown if this happened naturally or if there were efforts made by people to stabilize the rubble in order to preserve life on the planet. Efforts have been made by all major countries to find evidence of human intervention in this event as there are no known natural causes that could explain the intense shift in the planet and surrounding lunar bodies. Much is known of the civilizations before the Catastrophe as ruins of their structures and technology can be found reclaimed by the land. 
Despite little being known about the Catastrophe several cultures have creation myths that are centered around the end of this period. The Iktalik Confederation have oral traditions that talk about a great war between the people and the sky. It is proposed that the tales of fire raining down is refrencing the debris that would have fallen to the surface with this scale of destruction. Some scholars propose that there was a base of people on the lunar body prior to the Catastrope that were the true opponents of the war, however it is considered largely unlikely. While there has been evidence that the people of the Pre-Catastrophe had modern technology like flight, there is no evidence to support that they reached space travel.
