Anyr

Anyr is the religious capital of Drifeyer. It's a city sacred to the spirits that are worshipped by the Drifeyans. There are lots of temples and shrines dedicated to various spirits. It's a lot smaller than the capital Viëndyr but of the same importance. Anyr is a city of silence and prayer, therefore talking loudly is strictly prohibited as it might stir up the spirits. The only exception is the Sound festival.

Demographics

The population in Anyr is the oldest in Drifeyer, because many old dwarves like to spend their last years there and for old elves it is the perfect retreat from the ever busy, ever bustling other Drifeyan settlements.   Among the order members are also younger people but they're in the minority. There are also more dwarves than elves in Anyr because of its proximity to the mountains.

Government

The city is governed by the religious Order of the Eight Greater Spirits, an order that tends to all eight Greater Spirits in their worship, instead of one specific spirit. The governor is also the Religious Head of Drifeyer.

Defences

Thick city walls and a strategically advantageous position that makes the city hard to spot even when one is nearby.

Industry & Trade

There is a weekly market in front of the town's gates (as not to disturb the spirits), that deliver goods from the capital and the surrounding areas of Anyr.

Infrastructure

The city is built in a semi circle around the main temple, which is elevated on the hill. Anyr is half buit into the mountain.

Districts

There are three rings around the temple hill, but they're not sperated by walls or anything.
The outermost ring hosts the living districts for the elderly, dwarfs and elves alike. They live in a ring around all the temples and shrines, basically in the outskirts but since the city is small in area it doesn't really matter.
The retired monarchs also settle in Anyr, as this is the only place they are allowed to reside in Drifeyer to make sure they hold no political power anymore and don't influence the current Monarch or any other powerful people. If a former monarch doesn't want to reside in Anyr, they need to leave the country forever.
The middle ring hosts accomodations for the members of the order and the innermost ring includes temples for all regional and local spirits.

Guilds and Factions

The only organisation in Anyr is the Order of the Eight Greater Spirits

History

Anyr is the oldest still standing city in Drifeyer and used to be a dwarfish stronghold even before Drifeyer was founded.
In the beginning, Anyr used to be the Capitol of Drifeyer, but the elves didn't like the stony surroundings and the "lifelessness" of the city, so it was moved, instead, to Viëndyr. After that Anyr became half abandonned and dwarfish miners started taking up residence in the nearly empty city.
When Drifeyer adapted Spirit Worship towards the middle of ABT, the mostly dwarfish population was eager to errect temples for their new religion that was finally separated from the sea most of them rather despised. Many dwarves, especially those living close to the Silver Slopes had never warmed up to the Drowned Gods and kept to their own religion or refused to believe in anything at all. But since the kaatin spirits were so siilar in concept to the mountain spirits the dwarves had worshipped before, and could infact be integrated in the pantheon as regional and local spirits, many were happy to make the switch to Spirit Worship.

Points of interest

All the different temples and the Statues of the 8 Greater Spirits, as well as the 2 enormous statues of Diika and Nendàa.
