The Light

The Light, also known as the Beacon, Blaze, Flame, and Torch, is a weapon mentioned in nearly every modern culture on Aroka. If it weren't for how frequently it appears and how similar the descriptions are, it would be dismissed as mere legend. However, it's clear that all these tales are inspired by something very real as numerous peoples that don't have any awareness of each others' existence describe the same relic.
Though the stories vary, they all speak of a great war where previously unknown sentient species battled for control of the world. One emerged from the sky, the other from the sea, and a third from beneath the earth. In some places, it is said that a fourth emerged from the wilderness to join in the fight. The weapons and tools they fought with were beyond comprehension with powerful beasts of metal clashed while bolts of light and energy danced through the air, destroying everything they touched.
The known inhabitants of Aroka could do nothing but scurry in the shadows of these great armies, desperately trying to survive a war they could do nothing about. In terror, they watched their world burn as the war raged on with no regard for anything but destruction of the enemy. It seemed all of these forces were more than content to rule over ashes. Resistances arose to try and carve out pockets of safety, but to no avail. This all changed when a mysterious figure appeared with the weapon in question that was able to not only hold its own against the major armies, but could actually repel them. Though not able to vanquish enemy, it was able to defend and protect the few pockets of survivors that still remained.
Just as quickly as the war had begun, it ended with all four of the armies seemingly vanishing into thin air, leaving behind an alien and desolate world in its wake. As people emerged from their shelters and began to reclaim the world, stories of the Light faded into memory and then into legend. No one knowns the true nature of this weapon or the identity of its wielder, nor where either ended up. These mysteries have been lost to time, though those seeking fame and fortune in the ruins of the ancient world long to be the one to uncover such a treasure.
