Bloodguard

The Bloodguard is one of the many secret organizations of Aroka. Whether it began as a branch of one of the larger secret organizations, such as the Knights of the Scroll, or arose independently is unclear, but there is significant overlap between the knowledge they safekeep and they regularly trade information with each other in an effort to ensure ancient powers do not fall into the wrong hands. What is known is that the founders of the Bloodguard had discovered weapons created by one or more extinct peoples of Aroka designed to consumed and destroy all creatures with blood in their veins. To what end is unclear, but it is suspected that the weapons were never used or, at least, were stopped before any real damage could be done. However, many of these weapons are in incredible condition, seeming to be only in dormant states awaiting activation. The Bloodguard has learned that many of their components respond to the contact with blood and, they theorize, could fully awaken if given a large enough dose. As a result, they founded the international secret organization to track down and contain all weapons of this design to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.
Unfortunately, not all of their members believe such weapons should be left dormant. A fringe element of the Bloodguard, often uniting under the banner of the Crimson Cult, seek to gather enough blood to awaken these weapons and use them to control of as much of the world as they can, usually in the belief that with such power they could right injustices, perceived or otherwise, that plague the world.
