Arokan History
There is much debate about the exact time events took place, but there is a consensus in most academic circles as to the order of events.
The consensus extends only as far back as the Age of Ascension as there are handful of individuals from that age that have survived into the modern Age of Reclamation. These individuals tell of a time where gods lived among mortals and where it was possible for mortals to become gods. Most consider this to be the Golden Age of Aroka.
What caused the First Firefall is hotly debated, but it is agreed that this marked the end of the Age of Ascension. Seemingly simultaneously, the gods disappeared from Aroka and its moon exploded, raining down on the world in fiery chunks and setting it ablaze.
Shortly afterwards, several armies with highly advanced technology emerged from the ashes and began waging war against each other. This is known as the War of Ashes and lasted for a most a year. The details of this time are sparse due to the devastation of the conflict. It is believed that the war destroyed just as much of the planet's surface and its inhabitants as the Firefall had.
Just as quickly as the armies appeared, they vanished. This left the world ruined and covered in ash. With temperatures dropping due to the ash and debris blocking out the sunlight, the few populations of survivors retreated underground to escape the Age of Ice.
How long the Age of Ice lasted is heavily debated as some populations emerged much earlier than others, but most estimate are between 115 and 125 years. During this time, many of these populations classed with Deepkin that already called the subterranean realm home. This led to some of these populations being eradicated while most of those that survived were in a constant state of war with the Deepkin.
Towards the end of the Age of Ice, individuals brave enough to travel along the planet's frozen surface reported seeing balls of fire falling through the ashen skies. This is considered the Second Firefall and there is debate as to if this event is what caused the end of the Age of Ice or if it just happen to coincide with its natural end.
Once the planet reached normal surface temperatures again, Arokans began emerging back onto a very different world. In addition to the altered climates and landscapes, there were two new sapient ancestries already carving out a home in the melting ice, Dryn and Varyn, along with a host of creatures not present during the Age of Ascension.
This new age, called the Age of Reclamation, is the current age of Aroka. The majority of its populations exist in towns and villages scattered across the world, but a handful of cities have emerged, mostly within ruins from past ages, and some of these cities are beginning to unite to form civilizations.
