Zenstone

In Arodan, Hirblun has categorizations that reflect its nature and place in cosmology. Hirblun also is known for its direct influence on non-magical objects.
The Hirblun that emanates from Criye, Lother of Prediction, is Divination. One instance where Criye's influence can be felt on Arodan is the material known as Zenstone, an earthen substance that holds the power of divination and is used for the fabrication of products that hold this same quality.

Material Characteristics

Zenstone is bluish and glowing like the night sky above it. The patterns on a solid mass of Zenstone, no matter the size, will never change no matter how you look at it, as if it is following the viewer.

Zenstone has so far only been found in the southwestern continent of Helman.

History & Usage

History

During the First War of the Depths in the Second Era of Arodan, the Stone Giants of Arodan fought with the Duergar deep under the surface world.
Historians estimate that Zenstone came to be in this period. It is hypothesized that the power of Criye was, out of character, harnessed by a group of Stone Giants in the depths of Helman. Zenstones are the remains of these Stone Giants, their stone bodies still emanating the power of Criye.
In the Third Era of Arodan, nearly 500 years later, Zenstone was discovered by the surface world. Helmanian miners unearthed the qualities of Zenstone after its powers saved them from a collapsing tunnel. They mined it and brought it to light. A true rush for Zenstone happened soon after, spurred on by religious fanatics and greedy miners.
The depths would not easily give these stones away, however. Remaining Stone Giants vehemently guard the remains of their ancestors and Duergar lured at every corner.
Nevertheless, Zenstone remains a rare and prized material. To this day, items that are made with Zenstone are valued highly, and legends are spoken about the people that use them.

Everyday use

Zenstone is most often used as an energy source for magical objects. Crystal orbs, scrying tables, or any other kinds that could harness the divination Hirblun of Zenstone.
Since Hirblun power comes from the soul, Zenstone has a semblance of intelligence inside it. The old Stone Giants can sometimes contact other souls through Zenstone, giving them their wisdom. This is however a very rare occurrence.
