Kal-Kadred
The city of forges is home to the largest dwarven forge in Arlyss. Unlike kal-ein, the dwarves of kal-kadred supply arms and armor to their own armies who battle the orcs of the badlands constantly. The city itself has been raided by orcs 5 times, but never captured. They are the hardiest, most battle-hardened dwarves in all of Arlyss. Each dwarf of kal’kadred lives to wipe the orcs from the face of the world. After receiving the support of Sydonia, they have become staunch allies of the kingdom.
Government and Trade
King Duma Longbeard rules as king under the mountain in Kal-Kadred. Like in other dwarven kingdoms, he is advised by the chief cleric of the temple of the three (Vili Runemaker). His military adviser is General Sudri Grudgebearer. Rounding out the council of the three is forgemaster Nain Brightbellow. Together, they ensure the forges of Kal-Kadred continue to burn and produce arms and armor for the armies of the city. What precious metals and gems the dwarves of kal-kadred mine, they trade for furs, hides and food with the tribesmen of the north. They have no use for fine jewelry and gilded works, and they keep their metalworks for themselves.Military
Kal-Kadred shields the ancestral homeland of Khazad-Nogaak from orcish invasion and has been at war with the orcs in the tunnels and mountains of the north for over 3,000 years. As such, they are a grim and serious people. While the dwarves of kal-ein produce beautiful and masterful works of metal and stone, the dwarves of kal-kadred produce simple and effective weapons and armor to be used against the orcs. Slow to accept change, they have yet to implement gunpowder into their arsenal and prefer to use crossbows and traditional siege weapons. Their quarrelers are unrivaled, as are their warriors, paladins and war clerics. Scouts and mapmakers are in high demand in the northern tunnels, and count among the most important members of the dwarven army. They are sometimes accompanied by clerics to act as sappers, collapsing or closing tunnels with their magic. As allies of Sydonia, kal-kadred supplies squadrons of dwarven warriors to defend against orcish raids in the north of the kingdom. While the dwarves of khazad-nogaak and kal-ein bury their dead in vast burial chambers, the dwarves of kal-kadred burn their dead to make sure they never rise as undead in the service of the orcs. The dwarves of kal-kadred occasionally encounter raiding parties of dark elves from the great below, but seldom venture down there themselves. Strange creatures have been discovered in the deep tunnels of the north, and there are rumours of a lost clan of dwarves who were captured by tentacle-faced creatures and enslaved.
