Gangs of Dragonwatch

Most of the criminal gangs of Dragonwatch operate in and around the slums and docks. Though they sometimes clash with the Constabulary, the king recognizes that they serve a purpose keeping a semblance of order within the slums. Unless they can manage to become apprenticed to trade, most young boys of the slums work for one gang or another in their life.

The Barrow Boys

A gang made up of orphans from the orcgate district in the south of the slums. Their territory includes the makeshift cemetary known as "the barrows" for the many burial mounds wherein the dead of the slums are laid to rest. They collect burial fees from grieving families in return for protection of the burial sites. They also run thieves' guild made up of young pick-pockets.

Grimni's Axe

A dwarven gang from Dwarftown in the north of the slums. They protect their people and run a black market of Dwarven goods from Kal'Ein (free of tariffs and import taxes). Grimni's axe often clashes with the elven Gweryn Rydd or simply "Gweryn." They also run a protection racket outside dwarftown.

Gweryn Rydd

Elven for "free folk." This "gang" is made up of elves and half-elves born into Sydonian integration in the "little wood" within the slums. They secretly support Elven rebels in western Sydonia and run a thieves' guild in Dragonwatch. They clash with the Grimni's Axe, who run a protection racket that sometimes extends into the "little wood" where the elven diaspora lives in the slums.

The Pure

A fanatical gang of human sydonian nationalists who wish to protect "their people" from invasion by foreign hordes and other races. They run gambling dens, protection rackets, and fences among the human-run businesses of the slums and are actively at war with the Gweryn.

The Dockworkers' Union

This labor union is little more than a gang made up of dockworkers and foremen. They siphon funds from union dues to fund their illegal operations in other parts of the city and provide protection for the docks. They work with Grimni's Axe to smuggle goods from Kal'Ein and support the Gweryn's efforts to smuggle weapons bound for the great wood. The barrow boys often find employment in dock protection with the union.
