Aqua
"Most of us think of life whenever we think of water and yet the cardinal emotion relating to water is that of fear. Humans are creatures controlled by their fears and likewise Merfolk were once creatures who controlled others through fear. Water helps us survive just as fear does, yet it can also corrupt us for water and fear are both in essence decay." - The Great Chronicler
The Titan of Water is often depicted with two pairs of arms, an equal number of wings- wings which resemble those of the ancient sea dragons- and wield a whip and net. The face of the titan is often depicted without eyes and bioluminescent patterns covering their translucent skin. Membranous tendrils hang from their form and were said to both bless or doom whatever they came into contact with depending on the titans will, the extensions often acting as whips themselves whenever the titan was angered.
Aqua is the youngest of the Cardinal Elements, though it is speculated not by much. They were born in remembrance of Lux and Nox's fear of each other upon their first meeting and while not a favored memory nor emotion, Aqua was nonetheless accepted by Lux and Nox through their newfound wisdom. When the need for order drove the Cardinal Elements to create their own planes, it was Aqua who feared the apathy of Lux and Nox the most. Ever eager to please Aqua sought to dazzle their parentage upon the completion of said plane and was elated at the reactions of Lux, who enjoyed the way water made their light dance, and at the comfort that Nox found in the depths of their plane.
The Plane of Water is said to be a seemingly endless expanse of water, that stretches from horizon to horizon, its waters crisp and fresh on the surface but growing both in pressure and salt the deeper one dives. The domain is known as a place of purposeful mystery. Unlike other elementals that might seek to drive outsiders away, the beings of the plane of water prefer to remain in their solitude but when the invasion to their privacy becomes too great, they are known to swallow foreigners whole with little warning. Just as their master these elementals are elusive and slow to trust, gaining the favor of a water elemental is an immense blessing but be forewarned, they are also some of the most dangerous allies to have.
~ Aqua's efforts on Arkos ~
After the creation of their plane, Aqua was quick to err on the side of caution when Terra brought forth their concerns on chaos and the stability of their new domains, and eagerly sought to sway Lux and Nox to their cause. Despite their pleasure at being able to sway their parentage and at the promise of safety once this new task was finished Aqua was terrified by the body that was created to grasp the material. In their despair Lux attempted words of comfort in explaining the material and from both of them came a new realization: only now were they alive and capable of dying. At this understanding a form took shape in the fields of Chaos, the form being Vita, Titaness of Life. This new being woke with an understanding of her role that not even Lux or Aqua could grasp and offered the latter word of comfort and protection for as long as they remained on the surface of this new world. It was the beauty of Vita and the soothing words of her promise that allowed Aqua the strength and inspiration to reach out for Terra and offer up a new idea. One of this new world covered in the same beauty Aqua saw in Vita. From this agreement between Aqua and Terra came Silva, who with little pause set to work coating all she could see in greenery and living matter. After this Aqua enjoyed their time on Arkos in solitude, enjoying all the new plants they found in Silva's wake and delighting themselves with the way each reacted to the moisture they brought, whether that be to flourish or decay mattered not. However, after a while when fires began raging across the surface of the world Aqua intervened and forced Ignis to stop burning Silva's creations. Eventually Aether found their way to Aqua and urged them to make something new with them and though Aqua was hesitant together they collaborated in the creation of mist. From this new idea rose Caligo is all his wistful glory. Sooner than Aqua would have liked Ignis found them as well and the two were said to share sharp and bitter insults for days on end. From their angry ranting Acidulus and Venenum seeped into existence. The twins came hand in hand into the world and wore wicked grins on their faces. Together they ridiculed the two titans, shaming them for their behavior and rather than agree to put the twins in their places the Cardinal's parted ways. Seeking solitude Aqua traveled to the remotest reaches of the new world and there crossed paths with Nox. There the two titans dwelt in contemplative and companionable silence. In their shadows a third drifted behind them, coming into the word with the promise of quiet. Gelus knew not the purpose of his existence nor the hustle and bustle of what occurred in the lower lands. He was content to wander forever with his creators. However, it was not to be, soon after Gelus' creation all heard the call of Aether and drew together to finish the task that the Primordials and the Cardinals began. With all their children and creations gathered Lux and Nox proposed one final creation. Creatures that would be known as dragons, to protect and hold dominion over the world of Arkos while the titans reigned over their own realms. At their urging Aqua put aside any resistance at working with Ignis and dropped a bit of their essence into the waiting palms of Lux and Nox. The Primordials moved to offer their palms to the Scions as well and finally to Gelus, who unnerved did as he was bade. With that final drop, Dragons sprang from Lux and Nox, creatures of immense elemental power and of varying size and stature. Roaring, wild and free, these dragons launched into the sky and flew to the far corners of Arkos, eager to stake claims on whatever caught their eye. Tired of the task and fearful once more of their material body, Aqua was eager to return to their domain. However, they were surprised to find that sprites formerly from the plane of water urged their master to pause. These minor elementals begged of their master permission to remain, for their love of Arkos had grown stronger than their love of their original plane. Knowing that they could not leave them as they were, that they would be lost forever if they perished here in the material as spirits of water, Aqua shaped bodies for them to protect their souls. From these sprites came the races of Human and Merfolk.Humans and Merfolk
As Aqua intended the races of Mankind and Merfolk show the duality of water. Human's being the giving, creative side of water with its many forms. As well as the rampaging force it can become when gathered together. While Merfolk represent the strange allure as well as the hidden dangers of water. Overtime humans proved a resilient and collaborative race, coming together and crafting bonds far more often and easily than other races. They gathered in valleys like lakes and made cities to protect themselves against the wild and dangerous lands that surrounded them. In time their curious roads found the paths of least resistance to other cities, cutting through the land like meandering rivers. And sooner rather than later their desire to walk beneath one banner led to war. There is some innate part to humans that other races find needy and strange. They crave companionship in ways other races often do not, with a strength that they almost certainly do not share. It often was a trait that caught other civilizations off guard for their desire doesn't stop at only their kind. In accordance with written histories, it is believed that Empyrean elves were the first race that humans made contact with outside their own. The overwhelming friendliness and offers of trade had Empyreans opening their gates to these newcomers, even as some of their kind warned of a dangerous friendship with these outsiders. For good reason too, as of not but a decade later they were at war. This is a pattern repeated throughout history by mankind and though not they are not the only race to make war they are still certainly known for it. Just as well-known as they are for their eager, often friendly demeanors. Merfolk in comparison are strangely reclusiveConstellation
