Chin Tai

General Info

The chin are a race of sentient humanoid parasites. Their most defining feature is that they don't reproduce like normal animals but more like pests. They are able to reproduce at an incredibly fast rate but each of their childs needs a host body to survive.

Biology of a Chin

Chin are always born from a host body. Wether this be humans, dwarves or elves wouldn't matter. The host body would need to be made of meat though. Stone or woodforged body's wouldn't be able to be hosts.

Early life / Birth

A chin larvae would be placed on the skin of a host body. The worm like creature would eat itself to a hosts spine and attach itself to it. From there it would grow slowly taking over a hosts nerves. From the hosts perspective the proces would begin horrific as hair would fall out and skin would start to dry out. On it's back the skin would thicken and harden into a Chins Carapace. When the transformation progresses the host will experience tremendous pain. The nerves will slowly be taken over, sending jolts of pain trough the entirity of the hosts body. Losing control of it's body the host would soon be rendered immobile. Being unable to do anything but cry out in immense pain, sometimes it's mussels contract and bones break as the creatures grows in the body. Eventually the eyer will pop out and new ones will grow on the deformed head.   Lucky individuals lose their minds during these days of pain. The less unfortunate ones will slowly experience their minds being destroyed when in the last phase of transformation the Chin takes over the hosts brain.   Dark wizards who observed test subjects being transformed reported that in the final stage the newborn Chin would talk to it's host in their shared consience. And that it would "Consume" the memory and knowledge of the host. Finally the test subject would feel a numbing sensation in his mind. His speak would get slurry and his identity would get lost.   These events are of course in the case of living hosts. Unless they are too far decayed the Chin are also able to take over dead persons body. These Chin take longer to mature as they can't feed of the hosts mind, learning from it's experiences.

Physically matured Chin

Even born within a living body Chins will still be new to their worlds. Within weeks they will learn the "chittering" language of their kind but take much longer times to learn not native languages.   At the end of their transformation their carapace has formed around their body and arms. This strong bonelike armor protects them but has weak spots around their joints. When damaged the armor will regrow in a few months. Entire lost limbs however, will not.

History

The Chin are a relatively young race. First appearing only a few thousand years ago. The first of their kind inhabited only small animals and later when they learned to hunt in packs they captured their first humans. Having access to bigger brains they finally made the final step to gaining sentience.   The now sentient Chin quickly captured more humans to advance their species from mindless packs to an actual small socieity. With their strong natural armor and the ability to quickly gain maturity the Chin quickly swept over the land in what came to be called First Chin Plague.

The First Plague

During this time many kingdoms fell as their army's had no answer to the strong Chin fighters. For each human that fell another Chin warrior would be added to the war in just a few weeks. The Chin themselves envisioned a world where they would rule and breed enslaved humans to multiply.   These hours of darkness brought forth unity between the human kingdoms, who then came together to destroy the chin. Resorting to techniques like burning the body's of their comrades so the Chin wouldn't dig them up.

The Second Plague

After the first Chin plague small tribes of survivors scattered around the lands. A few peacefull centuries went by. During which larger tribes of Chin got hunted down. The hatefull Chin waiting for their chance to aquire greatness. Then the time came. A catastrophe happened and many humans died. A chin tribe seized their body's and formed an army.   The events enfolded more or less the same as during the first plague. Only this time the world had set it's mind to completely annihilate the species. Factionless groups of hunters, specialised in hunting Chin were allowed to cross all borders. Given everything they need in their quest to destroy Chin. So big was their hate against the Chin.   And it seemed to have worked. For hundreds of years Chin were a beast of legends. Perhaps the sentient Chin had truely all been destroyed and were new ones later evolved trough the same method as the first. Or perhaps they had been in hiding. But eventually they returned.

The Third Plague

The third time Chin waged war against the world they acted more refined and less like a horde. At a slower rate they took lands and fought more tactical battles. At the time the other factions of the world were dug up old techniques and fought a war of attrition against the Chin. When they were close to destroying the last of Chin the already unstable alliance fell appart. This time they were unable to completely destroy the plague. At the Chin side of the war a new smart leader had emerged. One who preached peace. Something that was unheard of during all ages of Chin.

Plague to present Chin

Under the uncomfortable rule of their new leader the Chin stopped their infasion and held on to the lands they had left after the last plague. It was an infertile land that most other species would leave alone. But it was habitable for the resilient Chin.   At first the Chin thrived. For the first time in history not only kept busy with waging war. They built their own city's, learned to farm and became more sophisticated in general. But when this generation became older reproduction quickly became a more and more pressing matter. Silently the Chin opened trade with neighbouring country's. At first this happened only in the shadows but trade grew when it was discovered Chin had valuable trade goods only they could produce. From the humans Chin would buy slaves. Only to have them have a horrendous ending to their life as they laid their eggs in them. They would also buy up dead bodies but would rather buy living ones as they believed this to produce stronger offspring.

Culture

Glothing styles

As most of their body is covered in chittin the Chin don't naturally need glothing. Only when they travel to colder climates they need glothing to warm themselves. There aren't many blood vessels in their Carapace and because of that they can freeze to death rather easily. But in their home country glothing isn't needed.   Many Chin paint their skin and carapace instead of wearing glothes. This often features patterns to show which tribe they belong too. Especially during times of war these will be worn into battle. Female Chin can spent days perfecting the make-over of their armor in chase of male Chins.
