Orcanos

An Orcanos is one of the few types of music that is only available in Penumbrian Crater States. There are some schools for training in other parts of Penumbria, such as Tegas Eisar and a very convincing simulation at Everybody's Mall.

They are organs that are constructed out of the caverns surrounding the craters, using the stalacpipe and air pockets around them to create an ethereal chime which is said, in mythology, to have the power to stop earthquakes or floods just by its sound alone. Artificial ones are constructed to look like the open mouth of a beast known as "Orcan".

There are several instruments that have been made from the surrounding earth by both Umbrians, Calorans, Penumbrians. These three cultures see the Orcanos, and its Antumbrian companion, the Stone Harp, as uniting calls for their respective people, sounds which could albeit closely mimic the sound and memories of Tellus, could not replicate it exactly. It is a deeply spiritual musical instrument for this reason, and one that Arkadians have gone on to modernize for their own use.

Each of the Crater States has at least one orcanos. They are sometimes located in the Bacco's Grotto through a pathway, how open they are to the public is on an individual basis. The orcanos is struck every beginning of the resonance, and it powers the Watchers until it needs to be struck again. This is why in Arkadian timekeeping, they measure by Resonance (see: Arkadian Timekeeping).

L.U.N.E.D and the Penumbrian Arkadian Ministries have tried to replicate the sound it makes, because it is so beautiful and ethereal and seems to be able to manipulate the moods and migration patterns of the Dusioi - according to LUNED's background motives, anyway.

Tega Alpana has several nightclubs that are underground and have artificially carved Orcanos sets into them, one of them being Tellu After Midnight, which is where Lola Loveless, whose uses an orcanos in her songs.
