The Zenith

On the island of Rockley Ait which lies to the north off the east coast of Anicarta is a city called Swanacre. In Swanacre there is a library called the Zenith Library. Inside there is a single chair that sits in the middle of the library roped off. It is a simple wooden chair, with just four legs a seat and back, and no arms. The legs and back of the back have simple carvings on them. This chair is called ‘The Zenith’.   There are a few tales of how the chair came to be. The most popular and accepted one is that when Swanacre was just a forest and meadow it was the place of peace between six tribes. The tribes would gather at the place every three years to help keep the peace. It was said a tribe brought chairs for each of the other leaders of the tribes. When one leader sat down in the offered chair it suddenly started to wiggle, buck, and jump leaving the leader on the ground. Everyone was shocked as the chair returned to just being a chair. The leader that was thrown from the chair started a fight saying that the other tribe had placed magic on the chair to embarrass him. As the tribes were defending themselves several more men arrived and caught the supposed leader and those that had come with him. Stopping all the fighting. It came out that the one that had been thrown was nothing more than an imposter and not the actual leader of the tribe. Then according to the tale, the tribes built a building for the chair and called the chair ‘The Zenith’. That building was expanded over the years into the Zenith Library. There are a few different variances of this tale.   Now that all the tribes are governed under one government they still use the chair to weed out the imposters. So whenever there is a change of power in the government for any position they are brought to the Zenith library to sit on ‘The Zenith’. If they are acceptable nothing will happen. However, if the chair finds that you are not worthy it will jump and buck throwing the person out and onto the floor. There are a few that want to get rid of what they called a stupid tradition however the majority of people do not want to get rid of it so it is kept.
