Qui-rope Language in Aridida | World Anvil

Qui-rope

The Quibia is a kingdom that is one of the three that lay claim to Amekasi. Amekasia is on Quibia’s northeast border. While the spoken language of Quibia is close to their neighbors they really do not have a written language as the others do. They communicate via ropes. The libraries in the cities within the Quibia kingdom have two sections one of ropes books and the other written books. This language is done with knots, colors, and braids. The colors are assigned to emotions to set the tone of what is being said. The different knots and numbers of knots on each strand along with how it is braided create what is being said. These braids are then placed in a grouping called a Qui-rope which gives the whole message.   This silent form of communication was born in a time of war. A long time ago the Quibia kingdom was invaded by a larger kingdom to their south called Navia. The Navia kingdom did everything that it could to change and stamp out the Quibia’s language, writing style, and much of its culture. The Navia even banned communications between the Quibia towns and cities. However, the people of Quibia did not submit and while they lost their written language they did not give up. It started in the noble and rich of the kingdom, they took some of their clothing and shredded it into strips. They then knotted and braided messages with these strips. These strips were many times used as bookmarks in the new books that they were given to read and learn from. These bookmarks were then passed around and taught to everyone else. Not long after it started in the noble/rich circles it filtered down to the lower class. As the Qui-rope expanded the Quibia people started to plan on how to take back their kingdom. After many years they were able to take their kingdom back and ended up taking over the Navia kingdom. In doing so freed the people from Navia’s oppressive rule.   To this day the Quibia continued their Qui-ropes as their communication between the different areas. They refuse to teach the Qui-rope to any outsider and it has yet to be decoded by any other kingdom. They hope that it stays that way.
