Neran

A primarily agricultural nation, Neran is at odds with its neighbors. In the past, it has been the aggressor, trying to get a foothold on the western side of the mountains. A period of internal conflict ended the outward aggression as the country suffered through a series of civil wars. The current regime seems to have stabilized the nation and maintains uneasy relations with its neighbors, but has not attempted invasion in quite some time.

Many refugees fled Neran during its troubled past, and most have not been allowed to return to their home, kept out by the strict immigration laws of the current regime. Many of these folk have become wanderers, living near the border but rarely daring to cross it.

It is said that the Dragon Cult holds considerable sway in Neran, and may even be a part of its ruling regime. Although the nation has not attempted armed invasion in recent memory, there is much talk and rumor of attempted infiltration.

Neran’s peasant population is very poor, and most are indentured to their landlords. However, the well-off often live very richly. Slavery is legal in Neran.

Government

Neran is ruled by a monarch; there is also a royal advisory council.

Defences

Neran’s army and navy are of moderate size, but employ more spellcasters than is usual. Their reputation for ruthlessness and use of powerful magic serves as a deterrent.

Natural Resources

Neran’s primary natural resources include produce and gems and minerals.
